'89s idle was less than steady on 180 mile run today. Kind of dipped every couple of seconds. Then in town While accelerating to pass a line of traffic RPMs stuck at around 4K. Pulled over lifted gas pedal but was normal. Couldn't remove air cleaner without tools but was able to work throttle shaft from pass side. Plenty of travel. Idle unchanged. Milked it home, removed air cleaner. Shaft closing against both screws, choke open, secondary appears closed, all lines connected. Might have to buy $60 ebay manual to work on this contraption. Don't want to. Search results not very definitive.

Having slept on it, I considered the possibility of a frozen secondary due to easy driving since I've owned it (6 months). Plus it sat unused for over a year before I bought it. I looked down into the secondary (the front one) and it appeared to be open slightly. I taped up the end of a slim screwdriver and pushed on the front half of the butterfly. It idled slower but still kinda fast. I tapped on the screwdriver and it now idles normal. I'll be carrying that tool with me until I can free it up.Last edited by georgeb; 11-08-2011, 12:10 PM.

Mine did that a few times and it would also do this weird loping idle thing. Sometimes I could get it to stop by popping the pedal to the floor a few times. Eventually it stopped by itself and i never messed with it :lol:89 L, hopefully returning from the dead soon with a little more power...
