  • Rust repair and new paint job

    Hey guys,

Just thought I would share some pictures of my vacation. I went to upstate New York and some family friends helped me out with the major rust repair on my wife's festiva. After we got done with that, we (my wife and I) stripped her down, prepped and painted her. It's a vast improvement over what she was before.

Thanks Wes, I wish I would have had more time to devote to the prep work, but I thought that my dad was going to help out more since it was supposed to be our first father son project. Instead, we had 3 days to prep and paint the car, and I've never painted before. I thought my dad was going to be the one to shoot it, but....no. Hhehehe, ah well, your first time has to happen sometime right?? I'm also really happy that I was able to save it from ending up in a salvage yard due to the body rot.

You made it look quick, clean, and easy! ( Yeah, right!) It will pay off in the structural strength you regained. Nice Work!

Very good work, it turned out great.
Did you get new bumpers as well?
                      They look very nice too.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I really like the color as well!! It was pretty tough though due to our time constraints. The panel repairs took three days, and then we only had 3 days to do all of the prep work for the paint job. I think the car looks a hundred times better than it did before though, and since we are planning on keeping the car forever, we might as well make it look nice..right?? We didn't get new bumpers, but they almost look like it now. When I was spraying the primer for the car, I sprayed the gray bumpers, and then I painted them black, so they look like new.

It's strange how even painting the bumpers makes THAT much difference, isn't it? I think it totally changes the look of the car compared to the natural gray finish.

I agree completely. I did the bumpers on my red B6 festiva and it looked awesome, so when I was planning on painting the blue one, I already knew I wanted to paint them black. I'd like to enter into FOTM soon, and think I have a fairly good story behind both of my festivas.
