Bored waiting for an engine... Installed Dual Horns!

Walked around the junkyard the other day... Among other things (fuses, escort hatch/gas poppers, escort dome light, etc...) I picked up a horn from a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis.

It just so happens that my current DD ('93 Grand Marquis...) has a FANTASTIC, LOUD horn. It's simple to remove (one bolt from under the front bumper) so I grabbed one on the way out of the yard.

There was finally a break in the weather so I installed them today. Nothing special, I guess, but I need to do something to keep my interest in the Festiva! Just waiting to hear from xaero_81 about the engine.

Here's a video clip of the toot tooter. The high and low dual tone horns are separated and installed under each headlight behind the bumper (stock locations).

Driving down the road in the left through lane and was entering an intersection as the light turned yellow and then to red. I couldn't go anywhere because the five or six cars ahead of me stopped for some idiot trying to turn into the bank just after the intersection...

She was fully stopped with half of her car in the left through lane and half of it in the opposite side's left turn lane. I was getting mad because I was stuck in the intersection so I laid on the horn... until I got past their car.

I'd say it was about 10 seconds... haha.

Well, a moment after that, this cool black Dodge Magnum guns it across traffic and gets close on my tail. Lights start flashing out of nowhere and, by golly, I'm getting pulled over.

The officer comes to my window and I have my information ready, laughing to myself because I did nothing to be pulled over... I've been pulled over before and know to stay calm and be polite.

"Do you know why I'm pulling you over?"

"Honestly, I have not a clue."

"You honked for a full MINUTE back there..."

"I was forced to sit in the intersection while that driver made an illegal turn across a double yellow line and four lanes of traffic... At rush hour."

"Anything on your record?"

"Maybe a parking ticket?"

"I'll be right back..."



I get the ticket..... "MISUSE OF HORN"

I laughed and said "Thanks, Officer"


I scheduled a date to contest the ticket and it was pardoned the second I stepped up to the stand. The judge said something along the lines of "He didn't ticket the driver that made you to sit in the intersection so he shouldn't have ticketed you for honking."
