Radio Install: Color codes for wires for headunits (Radios)

I've had much luck with www.the12volt.com to find car stereo/remote start/keyless wiring information. They also have many how to guides for random electrical doodads

I recently replaced the factory-installed radio in a WF Festiva. The original connectors were wired as per the Mazda 1992+ wiring on InstallDr: http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Mazda-Wiring.asp. However, the colours were all different to the Mazda specs:
          +12V Battery Blue/Brown
          Ignition Green
          Speaker RF+ Green/Orange
          Speaker RF- Blue/Brown
          Speaker LF+ Green/Yellow
          Speaker LF- Green/Brown
          Speaker RR+ Blue/Black
          Speaker RR- Red
          Speaker LR+ Blue/Green
          Speaker LR- Yellow/Red

The ground wire had a spade plug (as noted in the Mazda specs) and it was red.

Some of the wire colours were faded, so what I thought was brown may actually be red or orange, etc.

            Interior lights - BLU/WHT & RED/BLK

Which one would I hook up to for dimming the stereo with the dimmer switch?

Good god man, did mazda/ford/kia just pick wires at random? Here's my rats nest

First color is the primary color, second is the stripe color.

                WHT/RED
                RED/GRN
                GRN/WHT
                GRN/YEL
                GRN/RED
                GREEN
                BLU/BLK
                BLU/YEL
                BLU/RED
                BLU/ORG
                BLU/WHT

based on the 5 or so different possibilities, I could definitely ruin speakers and head unit if I wire these wrong. Based on what's running to the front speakers, the BLU/RED AND BLU/ORG go to the left front speaker and the BLU/WHT and BLU/BLK go to the right front speaker. I won't be running rear speakers so that's not a concern, but what is is the "Illumination and ACC" wires - it looks like WHT/RED is always hot, and BLU/YEL is the ACC, but which is the illumination wire? and what is the red wire with the green stripe? haven't seen that one mentioned at all.

I wish I could wring someone's neck for cutting the stock harness off my car. Crutchfield sent a nice mazda wiring harness that would've just plugged right in.

Take a 9volt to the wires to figure out which speaker they connect to. If possible, trace the wire color to the speaker first. Just hold one wire to a terminal on the battery and tap the other and the speaker will "pop" to tell you the connection is good. Otherwise, a cheap multimeter for voltage and continuity will solve the rest. Look for constant power (don't forget chassis is ground) and key switched.

I'm having trouble with the stereo wiring in a 95 Festiva.

                    Speaker wires aside; I've got,

                    Black - Ground

                    Yellow - ?
                    Blue / green stripe - ?

                    Blue / black stripe - ?
                    Brown / red stripe - ?

I got there in the end.

                      Similar to the Aspire.

Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Brown/Red

There was also two auxiliary wires which I didn't need for the new unit.
They were a Red / Black and a Blue / White.

I have a 95 festiva that I'm trying to figure out. The wires aren't the same colours as the post above? Anyone have a diagram or any help?

I've got speakwe wires in the following
                          Green orange
                          Blue red
                          Green red
                          Brown black

                          Blue white
                          Blue red
                          Blue yellow
                          Black red

                          Then these 4

                          Yellow
                          Blue
                          Blue black
                          Brown

                          And a black ground

On my '89 Festiva there are coloured plastic connectors, a green connector with four wires which would be for the rear speakers because all the wires are also green, and a blue connector with four blue wires for the front speakers, and a blue two wire connector and a black wire which I assume is ground.

On my '89 Festiva L it's almost the same as EricZKC has in the original post, except always hot is YELLOW.
Also the illumination (that on some head units makes it dimmer when you turn the lights on) is RED/BLACK.

                              Speakers (+ & –)
                              FR: blue/white & blue/black
                              FL: blue/pink & blue/red
                              RR: green/pink & green/yellow
                              RL: green & green/white
                              ignition ACC (switched): blue/yellow
                              battery (constant): yellow
                              ground: black
                              illumination input: red/black
