radio goes out when .............

why does my radio go out when the head lights are turned on?...it is the original radio i got recently as the car was not equiped with one....
i switched the 4 blade plugs around to no avail,,,,, if i put a ground wire on the protuding bolt for a extra ground will that work?....i doubt it will stop the headligts from turning off my radio...help...please
