  • New carb

New to me anyway! Got a Weber 32/36 DFEV in the mail today. $100 off of evilbay. Now to try and get an adaptor for it. Been looking all over and nobody has one. Got an adaptor with the carb that fits an aftermarket Porshe 914 manifold. Does me no good. Guess i'll sell it. Anybody happen to have an adaptor for the festy and need the Porshe adaptor?
    We could trade.

    weld the manifold

I saw a thread where the manifold was removed, welded and machined.
No adapter required. Everything at stock height. You will never go back to a feedback carb. No problems.

Before you get too excited, check the throttle opening linkage. I think the "DF" model linkage is backwards for what you need. If I remember correctly, the "DG" model has the correct linkage. I hope I'm wrong. What I mean by backwards is that if you had the carb installed on the intake, you would have to connect the throttle cable to the back side to get the throttle to open instead of connected to the front like the stock carb.

Well the DG model puts the throttle on the passenger side, the DF puts the throttle on the drivers side. Festiva throttle is on drivers side. The throttle does rotate the opposite direction as a festiva, but that is an easy fix. I did think about getting a DG and turning it around so that throttle would be on the same side AND rotate the same, but the price was good for this carb and all that needs to be done is locating cable from pulling on the bottom of throttle on Festy carb, to pulling on the top of the Weber throttle so it will rotate the right direction.

I bought a Weber 4 or 5 years ago and I know it worked backwards, but I'm not sure which model it was (DG or DF). I resold it on eBay and bought the Weber/Escort carb which works the correct way. I've bought several of the early eigthties Escort carbs and they have all worked very well.

Went over to Dan's today to scope out the install and help a little. Here are some pics. Dan built the two adaptor plates himself.

Pic the first: lower adaptor plate laid in place, amongst a hideous quantity of vacuum lines and electrical stuph that is about to go away.

Pic deux: carb in place, most of the stupid stuph is gone.

              #3: Driver side of carb.

Quatro: Passenger side of carb. Note the thick upper adaptor plate.

Dan, I suggest you have the mods move this thread to Custom Engine and Drivetrain. Might help people find it easier in the future.

He still has a few things to do first; lotsa vacuum lines to plug, relocate throttle cable, maybe a longer fuel line. Carb is not actually attached to the car, we just set it there for pics.

Not to mention, Tom, that all this came out of there!
                      [IMG][/IMG]

Kozak, I am not to a point to start. Tom took pics when it was not bolted, just sitting there. Had to plug 20 vacuum ports, on a small vacuum maniflod located on the underside of the intake. Wanted to do that before putting on the carb. Easier that way. Also have to fabricate a new bracket for the throttle cable, as it is in a different spot now. I am doing that now.
Tom and I just basically ripped all the stuff out and took pics. Apparently, he likes coming over, destroying someones car, and then leaving!:p
He said, That way, if it dont start, he dont have to deal with it!!!
                      What a guy.
But, I have to agree, it was fun ripping the heck out of it.
Here are some blurry pics of the adaptor I took with my crappy camera, before Tom came over.
Had to adapt the Festy guitar body shaped, figure 8 intake to the longer, almost straight, Weber carb shape.

The mating surfaces of the 2 plates.

The 2 plates put together. Can kinda see the transition from the figure 8 shape to the straight shape.

Now to get it all togehter and hope it starts!

                          feedback carbs

Don't worry. It will start better than the feedback carb. People are always amazed that the old cars never had computer controls and the only ported vacuum line from the carb went to the vacuum advance diaphram on the distributor.

I did that same big pile trick on a 79 Jeep a week after I bought it new.
We laughed that it still started after we took it all off. It had air injection pumps, miles of vacuum hoses and charcoal this and that.

                            *#&&$*^*&

Dang cars!!! $^%%!!! Spent most of the day running back and forth to auto stores trying get a rig together to hook up the throttle cable. Absolutely nothing around close by has any linkage parts except for big Holley carbs.
Had to rig it with whatever I could find.
Some welding and 2 bracket configurations later, and after a few dozen bolt/nut/spacer combinations, enough that I thought I was building an erector set, I finally have something that works! Didnt want to mess up the "integrity" of the stock cable end and wanted to use it as is. Still not happy with it, will re-modify it later. I'm going out to hook up the new fuel line to the carb, crimp on a connector for the electric choke, and turn the key. :pale:

From what I remember, I just transferred the throttle arm from the stock carb to the Weber and it worked fine.
