transmission diffrences

ok i have looked around the site and i am trying to find out what is the difference between the different trannys besides the obvious cable and hydro clutch release. i am asking since the merc capri parts are dried up around here. so i have been eye balling the 323 and the protege trannys.
i am also asking this question since it seems that there is not any markings to identify these trannys so you need to know what they are out of.
