Guess it's time to just buy a new lock set with key. Someone on here probably has an extra set or two

I tried the jiggling wheel with trying to turn key and no luck either. I don't understand how a cars ignition cyl just breaks when I haven't even driven it.
I got the car.
Lost the keys
got a key that worked from a friend
Turned the ignition (dead battery)
Car sat for 4 months
Put key in and cyl wouldn't turn
Tried turning wheel and still no luck
Wheel locked due to turning it too far
Now i have locked wheel & ignition...

you turning WAY too hard, just aggrevating the issue. Put the key in, and try to rotate it forward while jiggling the wheel left to right. See if that helps.Originally posted by chadzeilenga View PostI put the key in the ignition and turned the wheel as hard as I could in either direction and no luck. I tried to jiggle the key around and nothing. I was turning the wheel so hard it sounded like plastic was breaking somewhere.

I'm stumped! If the key worked before, then it should work now. Maybe something broke in the cylinder?

The key wouldn't turn even before the steering wheel was locked in position. It got locked because I was turning it around thinking that was keeping the key from turning. I'll try it anyways though.

Put the key in the ignition, turn the steering wheel as hard as you can, then try to turn the key. If that doesn't work, turn the steering wheel hard the other way, then turn the key. It sounds like you just have a locked steering wheel.

Steering wheel lock
What is it that unlocks a locked steering wheel? Does the car need power or just the key in the ignition? Remember, my key won't turn to ACC, RUN or START.

Yeah! That's what I was trying to say, it just didn't quite come out rightOriginally posted by Handyman View PostLane has a good point. Could be something as simple as wheels cut left or right and placing side pressure on lock. That is if key worked before. Could be having a senior moment. I had to bail my mom out once, drove across town to pull hard on steering wheel to get key to work.

Might be a lot easier to post a want ad here and buy an ignition swith with a key. By the time you buy all the parts and do the work you could have simply changed it out.

Are you turning the steering wheel while you try to start it? If the wheel is locked you probably need to put some force on it to get it unlocked with the key in the ignition

I lost the keys to the car. A friend had an old festiva and gave me his key. It worked in the doors and ignition cyl as it turned all of them.
The car sat in my garage for 2 mo and I tried to start it with the key my friend gave me and it would not turn at all. Then I was turning the steering wheel and now that is locked. I went and got a new key made at the locksmith and that won't work either.
