I was looking at the BP swap guide and it says to swap the crank pulleys and use the b3 pulley, is that something I'm going to need to do? Will I need all of the Aspire pulleys? Asking because I don't want to sell them if I'm going to need them. I don't have room to keep the Aspire stuff laying around if I don't need it.

I called about the 93 protege bp, I'm gonna run up thursday and get it, I need it so I can put it in and figure up how much room I'm going to have and if/how much of the engine bay needs cut/clearanced. After that I need a transmission/starter/alternator/distributor right? Anything else? I think they have the intake manifold and throttle body to go with it. (Sold separately and I pay a core charge too -.-)

The write up is for a non 1993 car. I dont remember going back to the yard to get a skinny pulley. the problem is the double wide pulley will hit the frame, and a serpintine is even thicker, so that is why that info is there. A non a/c aspire pulley is the same as what they are explaining im 95% sure.

My thought is that taking the B3 out "by hand" is not too much of a problem (I'd take the head off first to lighten it further). It's the "putting in the BP" that I think will need the proper tools.

I'd see about an engine hoist for the BP install.

Yes, I have plans already for getting a cherrypicker.. I was rushing to get the b3 out before I did tho, my aspire had a/c, doesn't matter I'll figure it out when I get there I guess. I got everything but the axels ready, it's taken longer than I wanted it to, but with the next two days off I want to have the entire engine bay cleared of unnecessary stuff. Things just changed so I may not even be getting the JY protege motor, but for the price of this new motor I can't argue or complain + it comes complete from the belts to the clutch which is considerable savings vs buying new, not to mention unknown miles and this one has 70k.

This is where I'm at now.. Still need the passenger axel out, it's seized in the hub pretty good, I stripped a harbor freight puller 3 times trying to get it out, after pb blaster and a 20 minutes with a propane torch, the hub was hot to the touch, so there's no reason the puller shouldn't have worked.

yes! even with a hoist it was a pain to get it positioned correctly. a harbor freight hoist was only about $160.

I found a way to circumvent a cherrypicker.. my idea worked! I don't think I'll be needing one, this seems to do the trick fine. Pics have been added to my photobucket account, I got the engine out today.

The way I did it was with my rafters and a chain hoist.. it slides from my engine bay to a couple foot in front of my car. My fiance said it wouldn't hold, I insisted it would, and it does. I cleaned the engine up a little, and this week I'm gonna get the master cylinder and all the brake stuff out of the engine bay. Everything is comming out, I plan on mocking up the new engine then taking it out and clearancing what needs clearanced then painting/rebuilding the engine. I'm gonna need help with getting the engine running, hopefully you guys can help me there.

Would the aspire transmission work for mocking up the bp? or do I need to go get the G-series transmission I'm wanting to use and use it? I was thinking the aspire tranny should be relatively close to the position the G series tranny will be?!

Id use the G series tranny. Just to make sure everything fits like it will in the end.

I'd listen to them, I'm not sure about the aspire but after exploding my e series, I installed an f series and it made it unnecessary to cut the firewall. So I did it for nothing yayayayay!!!!

Lol yea I definately dont want to cut it if I dont have to. I'm wondering if there is any difference in the size of an aspire's engine bay vs a festivas? Doesn't really matter, the engines gonna go where it's gonna be one way or the other. I need some luck here with finding an engine, the deal fell thru so if I don't find another complete engine by this weened I'll end up paying the JY price for the oil pan/block/head/vc and buy everything else separate. =/ and I need an intake manifold quick.

The aspire engine bay I believe is slightly bigger, but not by much,

Did the 90-94 protege or escort GT have airbags? Is that wired into the ECU for them, or will I have to figure something out for those? I want to keep them working if at all possible. I was thinking I could swap the pinouts for the BP ECU then get the stratified megasquirt ECU for it.
