What modifiacations did you have to perform to run the setup stated above?(spring perch/spacers/struts?)

Just a little notation. My 89 carby festiva gets about 2 mpg better mileage ( corrected) than the stock 12" wheels. I have 15x6 wheels with 165/45-15 tires. They have a smaller diameter than the stock tires and weight 2 lbs less than my steel 12" wheels/tires.

DriverOne -Originally posted by DriverOne View PostTwistiva, if you can keep the weight and outer diameter (20.1") the same or close, your mileage won't change drastically. Check the weight of your stock setup, and see what the weight of your intended purchases equal up to. According to the calculator at Rims&Tires, when the speedometer reads 60mph on a 195/45R15, the actual speed will be 62.2mph: 3.7% faster than the stock 145/80R12. This means that the tire is 21.9'' or 3.7% taller than stock. You would have to subtract 3.7% to get the true MPG's.
OK, good to know. Have to copy and paste those numbers into my Festiva GK (General Knowledge) word doc. According to this ff.com link (http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/sh...=powder%20coat) the 195-45-15s are pretty similar in size to stock 12's. He's got some good pix on his post that show that.
(BTW, MAN!, there's a lot of smart people here on this forum. Hanging out with smart people is cool! :thumbs_up

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to weigh/compare my stock wheels against the 15 x 6.5s and 195-45-15s and see what the weight difference is. Haven't bought them yet, probably not until February. Repainting Twistiva in January. Needs that even more than new wheels/tires (and it reeeeeally needs new wheels).
Cheers!Last edited by Twistiva; 12-27-2012, 02:10 AM.

I've got factory 12 inchers now and city mileage (90% of my driving) is 35-37 mpg in the winter and 38-40 mpg the rest of the year. Gonna go to 15 x 6.5s with 195-15-45s. What did your mileage drop down to?
