  • Car Battery Opinions

Yes it's time.......The battery is shot in the ol' daily driver. Was wondering what batteries others preferred when purchasing a new one. Thanks for any opinions.

    I prefer 12 volt ones

I've never had any problems with the ones I bought at Walmart.

You could probably start a Festiva with a couple of six volt lantern batteries hooked up in series. Small engines don't need a crazy amount of cold cranking amps, so an el cheapo battery is probably fine. If you want to spend a little more money, all my automotive teachers at school swear by Optimas.

You might even start your Festiva if you plug your cell phone in. But I have used Walmart and Die hard, the Die hard outlasted the Walmart one by more than twice as long. I currently have a Napa one that has been trouble free for 5 years.

I use a lawn and garden riding lawn mower battery and it works just fine, saves weight also.

Hey, thought you fell off the face of the earth!

I've used Dekka, Walmart (got to love that warranty, because you will get to use it), Advanced, and Sears.
I found the best thing to do is get the biggest battery that will fit in the allotted area. Usually, 875 CCA or better,
because we live where it gets cold! Could go with a lower capacity battery if you live in the deep South or South West or CA.
                Just my opinion and observation.

You think that's awesome? I ran a Yamaha Virago battery for a long time It lasted for a long time in a festiva till I wrecked it. Then I used it in a civic SI. The thing was maybe 4 pounds.

I always buy Wal-Mart batt, but this last time it wouldn't hold a charge. Took it back and had it tested....sure enough it was bad. Gave me a replacement (manufactured in 2005)
I stuck it in the winter Festy in the garage.....went out the other day and it was dead also.
I'm hoping it's the batt again and not something in the car that is draining the batt while its off.
