As far as tires go, you can still get 12's on tire rack. Do yourself a favor and stick to Yokohama's if you do that. Pretty much a hit or miss whether or not they will run true and round. These cars are infamous for shakies at highway speeds and 90% of the time its because of junk tires.

Better yet, look into upgrading to 13 or 14 inch tires. Stick to lighter weight wheels and stock-ish overall tire diameters though. No shortage of 13-14 inch tires out there.

Owners cost? Probably about as cheap as it gets. I dont remember what my insurance costs are but gas is $1.30-1.50 a gallon here right now so a fillup is $10-15. Never thought I'd ever see it this cheap again in my life. A well kept 5 speed will get 40-50 mpg all day long depending on driving habits.

I could pm you what i have spent on my car if you really want. Its super cheap. Way cheaper than my civic on maintenance and gas. I bought mine for $700. Paid $700 to fix it when 3 levels high of scaffolding fell on it. Replaced motor, clutch, t-belt twice, tons of tires, paid someone to install a tow hitch for $500, all my automotive tools i bought i included in the cost of owning a festiva, i bought tons of accessories, stereos, amps, subwoofers, painted rims and stripes... And it works out to about 4.5 cents per kilometre or $1100/year canadian currency. I was expecting it to die a while back so i stopped maintaining it completely other than oil changes, rear struts and tires and nothing happened for 3 years. Then i decided to keep maintaining it but in those 3years i spent $338.96 total.
As comparison NOT including the purchase price of my 2002 honda civic its 6.5cents/km ($1850/yr) on maintenance and i have a lot of big stuff looming ahead like a clutch, wheel bearing, new summer tires. If you include buying it like i did with the festiva its 10cents/km or $2850/yr. if you drive a lot you can save a ton on gas over a honda civic when the gas price is higher. But these cars are so easy to work on, parts are cheap and they break down quite infrequently compared to other cars. When they do its usually from a lack of maintenance or they are at 300k and the distributor quit...

You will not find a cheaper car to own & operate in existence. Literally. Even 4 new 12" tires cost a fraction of what one tire for a new pickup or SUV costs. Most are extremely dependable, but new parts are cheap as well. Insurance is a non-issue....liability depends more on your driving record, unless you plan on carrying full coverage for some reason.

Online tires.com has maxxis 155-80-12 for 41 each. I've bought several sets for my other cars that were larger 14/15 tires. Always had great and fast service from them. I have not used this brand tire. Just saw they were available.

I'm new to the whole Festiva world, I currently have 4 and I'm trying to get them all up to par, one in particular I want to keep is my 93 5 speed. The other three I plan on customizing and selling but my biggest curiosity is what's the owners cost of one of these like, such as insurance, monthly gas cost and WHERE THE HELL CAN I FIND NEW TIRES. Any and all help will be so greatly appreciated!
