Hi guys,
My Festiva has been off the road for almost a year, with a few issues but the main reason is the gearbox. A mechanic who didn't know the oil levels underfilled it and it wasn't spotted by myself until too late. Regardless the engine wasn't far behind so I wasn't too peed off.
I've decided it's time to get her back on the road. So my question is:
Has anyone rebuilt these gearboxes or do you all just replace them? I assume replacing is the cheaper/easier option though I'm not sure how readily available the E series gearbox is here in Australia as these Festiva's/Mazda's are becoming quite rare even in junkyards now. And the Aspire, I think they all had the G Series gearboxes. The E series gearboxes could have been in a number of other cars though, I'll need to investigate that. If the cost isn't much more, I'll just rebuild mine.
Side note: I've found a white Festiva with 27,000 miles on it, one owner in great condition (though its an auto) so I can pick everything from it except the gearbox. I'm close to pulling the trigger on it.
