Hi, long time off the forums. I bought a 1989 EFI that the previous owner bought and drove 4 miles home before losing spark.
He replaced the distributor with a reman and gave up at that point.
It turns over great. Battery is good and holds a charge. I was getting just a bit less than battery voltage when cranking at the coil connector. I then found the coil had no resistance and replaced it with one of the few new '89 EFI coils left in the country. I now have spark at the coil and 12V from coil to battery. I have a 1989 carb car that runs but is now a parts car. I pulled the ignition control module from it as it had resistance readings at all posts while the (what look like an old used one) ICM in the reman distributor had one post not showing continuity. I still have no spark past the coil. I've swapped in a known good cap and rotor. It has new plugs and wires because I was sure it was the coil while I waited for it in the mail lol.
The '89 FSM I have barely even mentions the EFI cars. It tells me anything I could ever need to know for a carby, wish that was actually useful.
Any ideas? Anyone know the difference between a carb and '89 EFI disty? They look identical, I'm considering swapping it over as a unit.
I'm nearly to the point of pulling the entire harness out of a '93 I found in a junkyard. I just don't want to do all that if I don't absolutely have to.
