:confused2: what I did not know was that the "cooling fan temperature switch" is normally closed and that the fan relay is normally on, when the temperature reaches the set point the "cooling fan temperature switch" opens and the relay is switched off then the fan works...and how do I know because my fan belt broke on the motorway at 110km/hour (60 miles per hour for everyone else) and after fitting a new belt the engine seemed to be running a little hot, that's when I found out about the temperature switch...so I tested it in the oven at about 110 celsius and it did not open so off to the Auto wreckers and a few bucks later I tested that one with a multi meter after a bake, result good temperature control.
I thought it was worthwhile posting as it may save someone else a headache, so if you pull the spade connector off the "cooling temperature switch" the fan will run but be careful of your fingers, if the spade is disconnected and the fan does not run then you need to look further
