  • A/C cutoff switch

Why is it that when the gas pedal is floored and the switch on the pedal assembly is pressed the A/C cuts off for a few seconds and comes back on? Is it to increase power at high speed by disengaging the compressor?

    Regards,

yes. In fact, the earliest Festiva's had a sticker on the underside of the hood warning dealers not to install AC on the cars. I've only seen it on two 1987 built Festivas. Not sure what caused them to come around later on. Wich I would have taken pictures of those.

Yep, thats a feature on quite a few underpowered cars. Cuts the a/c compressor off when your more than 1/2ing the throttle.
