I've traced a noise in the front end to where the axles enter the transmission.
It's a ticking noise which happens when driving over a frost heave crack in the
pavement, not so much from drivign through spring potholes. The noise also
Happens when driving slowly on smooth pavement as a click-click-click so it
must be somewhere in the driveline.
The axles, control arms, brakes and bearings are all have less than 5,000 km
on them I just replaced the sway bar bushings and tie rod ends.
I haven't taken a transmission apart since I was a teenager in the 1960's so
amd not familiar with them now.
Any ideas what causes that kind of noise?
PS I've been under the car checking all the fasteners are tight.
My favourite mecanic has been under the car with a pry bar and can not find
anything which is obviously loose.
Yesterday I had the front end up on jack stands with a long bar under the tires
levering them up and down to similate drivign over bumps, and a length of hose
as a stethescope to trace the noise to the transmission where the axles enter.
