How do you fix a speedometer that doesn't work?

  • #2
Find the problem and repair it.

I suppose you want a better answer.

I would pull the the speedo cable out od the tranny. To do this you need to remove a small bolt (10mm wrench) and pull it out. Look at the gear for any damage. Then I would spin the gear and have a helper watch the cluster and see if it moves. If it does then the problem is in your tranny. If it doesn't move it may be disconnected from the cluster. Leave it out of the tranny. Remove the cluster and check it out. With the cluster out you then could check the cable and the speedo.
This will get you started on finding your problem.

        speedo concern

4 and 5 speed cables are identical. In fact, they're the same trans, only one has some extra parts to make it a 5spd.
