DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

The windshield wipers are operated by an electric motor mounted in the left rear corner of the engine compartment. The motor is attached to an access plate that in turn is attached to the dash panel. To prevent metal-to-metal contact and the transmission of vibrations to the body, the motor is mounted on rubber insulators.

The rotary motion of the motor is transferred to the wiper arms through a linkage and pivot assembly. The wiper arm pivots extend through the cowl sheet metal and are held in position with attaching nuts. The ends of the pivot shafts are serrated and cone shaped to prevent the wiper arm from slipping on the shaft.

The wiper arms are installed on the pivot shafts and are held in position with attaching nuts. The ends of the arm and the attaching nuts are concealed under a snap-on cover. A slide clip attaches the wiper blade to the frame assembly.

The wiper switch is mounted on the steering column as part of the combination switch. The switch provides two detented positions (slow wipe and fast wipe). The switch also has a one-touch mode. When the handle is pushed toward the instrument panel and released, the wiper will cycle once. Spring pressure will return the handle to the off position.
