I have a 93 Festiva that the fusable link on the shock housing behind the battery started getting hot and smoking. The car at the time had died and would do nothing till we jumped it thru the starter. After starting is when it started getting hot etc. so we pulled it out and noticed that it appears to be corroded where it plugs in.We have an'86 or '87 that apparently had the same problem and has been wired direct from the link to somewhere down below it. Our mechanic tried to do the same but can only get it to crank, but not start. The only thing I know about auto elec. is "If you let the smoke out of the wire, you're in trouble!" Looks like I'm in trouble!!! Help!!
