Fuseable links

I have a 93 Festiva that the fusable link on the shock housing behind the battery started getting hot and smoking.The car at the time had died and would do nothing till we jumped it thru the starter.After starting is when it started getting hot etc. so we pulled it out and noticed that it appears to be corroded where it plugs in.We have an'86 or '87 that apparently had the same problem and has been wired direct from the link to somewhere down below it. Our mechanic tried to do the same but can only get it to crank,but not start.The only thing I know about auto elec. is "If you let the smoke out of the wire,you're in trouble!" Looks like I'm in trouble!!! Help!!

there are 3 fuse links at that location.... 30 amp, 40 amp, 30 amp is what they are supposed to be...
you can get the square block fuses and so try that... if they keep burning out you got a short somewhere.

It's the center one,the 40 that runs just about everything according to the Chiltons manual.inside of the link housing is crumbling apart it's so rusted.Can they be found and replaced easily?

Any auto parts store should carry them. Refer to this picture for what you need



Ignore the little 10 amp fuse.

Get the long ones. They fit better. If you get short ones, they get crowded together and don't fit well.

nah, you'll be fine...but just keep a few spares in the tray or glove box

oh yeah- i get all my 20, 30, 40 fuse blocks at JY's so don't buy any..

It's actually the block itself that is the problem.The center one where the 40 goes has corroded away so there is nothing to plug into.At least the back piece has. My question is if the piece that is mounted to the car is replaceble and where can I find one?I havent found many junkyards in the Greenville/Spartanbure area of S.C. that has any Festivas!

i just replace the jumpers to the green fuses i had to use all green works nice everything works perfect thank u i had no idea that would work thanks for the quick fix now the head lights work ....

post a "[WTB] ..." add in the For sale section... i bet there are many parts cars that have these still good.
