  • Manual to Automatic Tranny conversion

I plan on converting my BPD Kia Pride to Automatic tranny.

I need to know all the parts needed for the conversion
This is what I know so far:
    =Auto TRANNY
    =STARTER
    =PEDALS(Brake and Accelerator)
    =SHIFTER CABLE
    =SHIFTER with CONSOLE BOX
    =CROSSMEMBER
    =AXLES (L & R)
………..I might be missing some small details

-Does the Manual and Auto tranny have the same Spline count on the axles(end of axle going to tranny)
-Do they have the same axle length (L & R)

-How can I let the Automatic tranny shift in 6.900RPM
-Can the Auto tranny hold the power of the BPD
-How do you properly launch Auto tranny in Drag races
-What are the pros and cons of this Auto Conversion?

    Thanks in advance

Confucious say "wise man search for answer before asking question."

seriously, yvanlavolie has answered almost all of your questions already, just search a bit.

Just don't search for yvanlavolie because you won't find anything.

this Yvan http://www.fordfestiva.com/forum/pro...wprofile&u=248 has a BP powered Aspire with an auto tranny and I think there is a write-up about it on the ff.com homepage

I do have one question: Why do you want to do this conversion? What do you expect to gain from it performance wise?

          Auto

Ive already searched before......but I need others... helpful answers

To Hapymom....gunshot accident which now impaired the proper function of my left leg......and for me to still enjoy my Kia Pride is to convert it to Automatic......problem is....its only 3-speed auto......my car will now be slower, right?

I didnt post it in the “custom drivetrain section” because…..I think its not really customizing…..bec. there is really an Auto Festiva

          Thanks

I own a 91 festiva GL auto and I just finsihed a 1200km round trip to rescue my ex gf from a world of drugs she had to be taken from.

anyways... my car is an auto and I can tell you that it does do 140km/h but there is no power from the 0 - 70km/h range. After that you can drop the gear to 2nd anywhere from 60km/h up to 90km/h for passing.

I also figured out that running these motors on 94octane at the pump works wonders for a little more oomph. 109cents a litre but the car stayed at 120km/h up the coquihalla connector here in BC.
I know I know... pull over

              parts

needed : tranny, axle lh and rh from auto, starter from auto, shifter and console, pedals, transmission oil cooler ( focus 2001 16V with the rad and fan ,aluminum core radiator ) cross member from auto but i think manual is the same. flywheel, kick down switch, tranny support front and rear, it is not very difficult to do this swap but it is a little bit harder to convert the small tranny to handle 140-150 hp or more but if you have a good machine shop around you ( 4 parts to cut ) you can do it with not too much troubles.

if you want some help i can explain all i made to be there (except explosions !!!!)

for higher shift point you need to add some small washer inside the governor and in the oil pressure regulator.

i launch at the drag 2200 rpm...no more...at 3000 rpm and 1-2 psi the small diff explode in...too many parts to count :?
the output shaft is the weakest parts, next is the input carrier and finally the flywheel.

i have only one really bad thing with the auto...top speed is limited by the rpm...8000 in my case (210-215 kmh...) but this type of econobox (shoebox ? ) is not a Ferrari .

if you have an HEAVY pedal, fuel is happy to burn and tank is empty in a snap.

              good luck !!!
