like to leave the lower 48 and think Alaska sucks anyway!

WOW...ABOUT FIFTY MILES NORTH OF ME; AND EVEN WITH A PASSPORT AND WASHINGTON STATE "ENHANCED" FOR BORDER CROSSING DRIVERS LICENSE: I CAN'T GET INTO CANADA DUE TO A FREAK DUI IN CALIFORNIA APRIL OF 2001.*

I'm really sick to have recently found this out on my first trip going north of the 49th since the mid '80s I consider my second homeland since raised here just to the south on Puget Sound and often traveling in B. C. over many years.

Maybe I could sneak up on a ferry boat somehow?(Not really: Does anyone know what its like to go through the available procedures to get around this stringent Canadian law; that I was given at the border station north of Blaine some sheets of paper with data on how to proceed with, requiring at least $200 and a visit to the Seattle Canadian consulate's office-assuming I've correctly read their photo-copy of a photo-copy of a photo-copy of a xerox, etc.)

*Due to a brake malfunction where I'd deftly avoided a much worse case scenario with very minor real damages, and my first ticket since '70 though since I've gotten two for speeding about fifteen over the posted limit, both times obvious speed traps when I'd been within the intent if not the letter of the law; feeling lax and a daredevil in my soul even now after my near perfect driving record got blotched as if some swallow sized insect on the windshield hit at ninety per.

The brake job was even one of the car's selling points June of '99 since recently accomplished supposedly by the original owner I'd bought from, a jet helicopter in the Coast Guard stationed there in Eureka, CA I'd bet the fifteen year-old son of was the actual hand in the job; leaving unlubricated a crucial locating pin the right front caliper was supposed to've been allowed to float on, instead finally frozen from increasing corrosion and friction!(yeah, I know-if you want something done right, eh?)

        p. s. Is mardi gras really Canadian Valentine's Day?(you'd be surprised if not very, how many people in Bellingham don't question my little fib for fun!) Something to do with the lunar calendar leap year day Canadians use which is different from down here, is how the difference is explained if I remember correctly?("Oh Canuukada" sung to the tune of the Coltrane/Saunders LIVE IN SEATTLE L. P. which when issued got labeled "car wreck" music for then obvious reasons now perhaps more indistinct to judge as the consensus ear has developed some since then)

And hey, my great story coming in towards Garibaldi from the backside climbing a steep grade along Duffey Lake when the guy just feet in front of me grabbed down for granny when I was already counting individual cylinder's combustions as I'd crept along behind hoping my motor wouldn't die; who'd flashed huge laughing full-bearded humorously mocking grin when on the next available flat I'd passed around his 3/4 ton or ton pick-up loaded with a heavy wooden home-made camper I'd been memorizing the appearance of-as if the second story tenant across a narrow alley from my ground floor flat, still groaning inwardly as I'd had to pray the motor in my '66 VW square-back sedan wouldn't stall I'd then been living out of loaded for its size just as heavily as that backwoods stud breaking trail so to speak in front of me; with what had seemed like at least a two thousand foot sheer drop-off to our left alongside that narrow enough gravel road we'd been on, I'd chosen as an innocuous enough looking straight line on my map after crossing north at Oroville-Ossoyous on 97 like the bear going over the mountain to see the other side, meandering sideways as ever through life somehow.(and thus stuck ever in all the cracks!)

Great fun though heading back towards the border on 99 eventually, with an old $2 cassette recorder picked up in a West Vancouver thrift store; where I'd shopped hoping to find a good winter coat also affordable, but came to the cash register with my tape machine instead and as our eyes met parting, the young woman working there I'd given money for the recorder to and I'd fallen instantaneous in love.(mmmm...yearning loudly in my learned quiet murmur)

I'd had a cassette of Joni Mitchell's BLUE I'd gotten used though had never had anything with which to play that music on, and had listened to "A Case of You" as I'd approached the crossing at Blaine; which I still possess, but the last time that $2 cassette machine would run, that neither new batteries nor thumps and poundings were able to coax or persuade back to life, once I'd been back to the states.

My first love Tina Blade raised just south of Bellingham in Mount Vernon where her Dad Walter still owns the local Chevy dealership BLADE CHEVROLET, I'd met and got to know our first day at Evergreen College in Olympia, WA the fall of '72 when we'd both been twenty-one and stretching our academia as long as possible who I've last seen in '79 right after she'd gotten a master's in creative writing in Eugene at the University of Oregon though we've spoken over the phone about five years ago, I'd found from an internet posting about a Morgan horse she'd shown which had amused her when I'd told her that.

Who when we were lovers had played Joni Mitchell songs on her guitar while singing for me, who though she neither read or wrote music could play as if Joni herself, a flawless imitation I'd of easily been fooled was something of hers original(Tina a poetry student then) had not Mitchell been already an icon and well enough known, even I'd heard her often whose FOR THE ROSES LP always had sat there on Tina's front room carpet leaning against her old portable record player.

Being myself then into Bird and fine red or gold Columbian reefer; who five years later being exposed to "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and "Love The One You're With" thought both were originals my Puerto Rican NYC born and raised friend Gene "Harmony" Ramos had made up, he sang while playing guitar who I liked to jam with high while playing flute; for a few years of incredible isolation with ANTAHKARANA CIRCLE.

That was a group of educated indigents living communally to study and practice yoga while trying to support ourselves as transient agricultural workers in the apple orchards around Lake Chelan north of Wenatchee, WA and many places elsewhere.

As far away as Montana's Flathead Lake one summer following the cherry crop together in Theo's '55 White school bus I'd driven one dawn when the brakes nearly faded beyond redemption coming down the winding McNeil canyon road full of people asleep.

A group after graduation from Evergreen College I'd hooked up with in the winter of '77-'78 and helped to produce six of our spring healer's gatherings between '78 & '90; that were wonderous three day outdoor events in the wilderness with our instant village of a thousand or so many local oldsters got reminded of old time religion revivals by.

The first outside Naches, WA; then near Bonners Ferry, ID; a few in the Aneas Valley east of Tonasket, WA, one near Malo, WA; and the most recent on the Methow River about thirty miles north of Pateros, WA close to the community of Methow there where I think half my friends mistook me for part of the invading RAINBOW FAMILY entourage/complete with rapine and their trademark 24 hour drum circle all the three day weekend many people hated; but a great celestial event Friday just after sundown with the western sky over the rim of the Cascade range lustrous with gently tiered clouds and the crescent moon with two eyes like a smiley face, from Venus, Mars and Jupiter...the later two in front of one another somehow so a halo from the one behind's light shining around the other...guess Venus socked the bloke a good one!

There is a great famous novel based on a true story I've read which I'd like to rediscover, about the only other time such an event in the sky has occurred in recorded time; when in the book the protagonist and his Jewish physician traveling companion are at sea heading around the bottom of the Indian peninsula for Malaysia and see the same event from their sailing ship; as the hero is bound to find and return after seeing water run uphill, as the condition he'd been given a set time to fulfill to prevent all his land being somehow absorbed by the adjacent church's vast holdings...I think perhaps in Ireland during the eighteenth century and which he did by coming back on the very last day of the year the abbot had given him who'd found a river very short into a lake on the Malay peninsula which at high tide ran into the lake)

You guys are gonna kill me! I'm out! Can't make it :cussing:

Unforseen circumstances are going to prevent me from making it this weekend. I'm really sorry if I would've known sooner, I would have told you sooner. It is with sincere regret that I won't be there!

leapin: I think I'm going to start requesting certain days for you to call a meet, except on those days I'll lock myself in a panic room so that nothing bad can happen to me due to the isolation.

p.s.: The Festy is fine - I'm the one with the problem.
