This place, Eagle's Haven RV Park; is where I spent a night in the Festiva January 23rd or so in 2008; which features a large heated shower room with sinks, toilets and a cement floor, amongst the rest of the facility's many fine attributes.[http://5starcampgrounds.com/eagles-haven-rv-park/

They've hosted a kayaker's gathering of dozens of participants from distant locations, and the place is typically home to about ten regular residents in self-contained rigs; which also has an office without regular attendant, a nice flat roof building which is fairly large-on the scale of a small cottage with sliding glass doors.

Nearby is the Silver Reef Casino/Hotel; which has added since I've moved here a fine network of paved cycling and/or pedestrian pathways, to accommodate such traffic along the fast Haxton Way arterial-the main road next to the Eagle's Haven; with regular bus service seven days a week, from the line which also serves Bellingham, WA about ten miles south of the park.

Definitely a sylvan setting, not far south within a mile or so, is also a ferry terminal which carries cars or trucks regularly to Lummi Island; set in the largest residential area of the Lummi Nation, where is also a high school and well staffed fire station for instance-though lacking in commercial outlets.

Well, no one seems too interested; though I'm still suggesting this area as one which could be a great place for a Festiva gathering.

There is another campsite quite a distance from the Eagles Haven RV Park, where I spent the next night: A county park called Silver Lake which is up against the Cascade mountains, where a couple feet of snow was on the ground that January of '08.[http://www.whatcomcounty.us/parks/si...sl-camping.jsp

This is a far larger and much nicer camping area than the Eagles Haven RV Park of course; though with Eagles Haven, there is the proximity of the Silver Reef Casino/Hotel if anyone is attracted by that sort of thing? This area abounds in all sorts of beautiful scenic drives, and/or excursions to such as the San Juan Islands nearby. We are also just a skip away from the Canadian border, the large city of Vancouver, B. C. included.

Someone with a Festiva as their father/son project sent me a private message about having a northwest Festiva meet; I probably replied to a little too negatively? I got stuck in that sort of a deal with my Dad and a '29 Model A; so I'd sent a message that the idea is a good one-only when that one vehicle between both parties!!!

Too damned many cold winter weekend days as a twelve year-old wire-brushing stupid front fenders by hand; in a large two-car garage with only a small pot-bellied stove for heat prior to global warming: And; my decades a derelict maternal grandfather shuffling overhead in the unheated attic-someone I never once saw or spoke with the six months near the end of his life he lived there at the age of sixty-four a burnt out alcoholic dried out to die in relative peace; who ended life a silent bedridden fellow a couple weeks or so in the family den in our house that summer.

Anyone curious can see that magnificent home at 705 Walnut Drive in Eugene, OR then as now one of the nicer places on the block; built if I'm not mistaken during the 1940s-we added a couple more bedrooms and a bathroom to upstairs; or as designed-my mother's sewing room-the bathroom with shower in the middle; and another larger room with a sink and counter on the other side of the bathroom-with already two larger upstairs bedrooms; each occupied by a pair of my four younger sisters.

A place we only lived in a few years; as the bottom fell out of my father's River Road Pharmacy's business-when two discount department store chains opened in Eugene; each with their own pharmacies selling prescriptions at a loss to garner business.

The way my Festiva is suddenly using lots and lots of oil; all leaking from the end of the motor with the distributor-I'm wondering what sort of range if any I'm going to be limited to; by the time a northwest meet could be scheduled?

I wish I could find a small garage or similar space locally to rent inexpensively; where I could work on the car myself.

Trying to do so in the parking space in front of my apartment; simply attracts too many people-of whom most seem to seriously intend disrupting me. I work slowly at best; so these conditions overwhelmingly defeat me. I also need freedom from distraction-to be able to do good enough work.

The above is next to our snow park with log shelter
Huge asphalt parking lot, big log shelter, fire rings
free to camp in after June 1st. Adjoining trails open July 1st
There is also free camping off asphalt, dirt road
to campsite on the banks of annie creek.
This all is on the south border of crater lake.
Fee-free days for 2012 will be: January 14-16 (Martin Luther King Jr Weekend), April 21-29 (National Park Week), June 9 (Get Outdoors Day), September 29 (National Public Lands Day) and November 10-12 (Veterans Day Weekend).
I imagine 2013 will have the same fee free days otherwise to tour the rim, picnic and photo shoot is a day and costs $10 per car. There is a lot more to explore and do there but the same $10 gives you 7 days to
                  try and get it done!
Because of year around snow National Public Lands Day is the best free day, Veterans Day would be chilly and may have snow storms .

If the $10 a car thing is not a problem that opens up most of the summer.
There is cafe's and stores after the pay booth in the park. Fort Klamath has
motels but little else. Kla-Mo-Ya Casino has food and fuel and lots more.
Klamath Falls has all a normal town offers but is an hour away.
                    Discussion ?

If this is a boo boo and needs its own thread ?

I'm always thinking about building my own engine hoist; from various inexpensive wood products, glued and stressed for strength. I know many would recommend I rent an available engine hoist; though my reasoning is having one of my own would make all sorts of impromptu maneuvers more accessible? Since I've never pulled the motor; I still can't easily envision doing that very well: While also imagining some serious reading of the factory and/or Haynes manuals would give me the graphic imagination necessary.

I've got plenty of available shelving inside my apartment; so getting the whole motor pulled apart, to have all the necessary components renewed-rods & pistons balanced w/new rings, head with new valve guides, crank ground with new main & rod bearings, cam renewed, cylinder bores renewed, etcetera; with all new seals on the motor/and the clutch, pressure plate & throw-out renewed; seems doable without overwhelming expense-provided I'm not in any great hurry?

http://leavenworthdrive.com/ I did this last year with a couple friends in an 06 Passat, pretty fun. Hwy. 2 was good for da speed (we found a BMW M6 that had a radar detector and hung on behind him through the twisties ) Another one of my friends already drummed up some new participants for it on Pirate 4x4 and a couple of Ford truck forums. They should mix well with the eurotrash... A festiva presence would be awesome and I'd love to make it. But the day they have shown there is my HS graduation, and I can't really skip that with family coming to town.

The notion struck me a day or so ago, to make a pair of contoured at bottom vertical segments-matching the front fender creases where the hood falls; to use as uprights for a cross-member for raising the engine? Once that were out of the car, then transfer to some other means of carting into the apartment would be the next project//even using the car would be feasible while the motor hung, adjusting back & forth in the parking bay.

I could likely cut the curve to match the fenders out of two cedar fencing slats, then bend a length of 1" by 2" furring strip around their curve screwed & glued to that; which could help support the rest of the two contraptions-with perhaps even some horizontal extension at the top capable of inching the engine forward a bit, to ease transfer out of the car. If the two verticals were strongly secured to the fenders-and/or perhaps counterweighted, then the forward extension could be adequate lowering the engine to ground-or whatever conveyance were devised from there.

Perhaps a classier than raising the car above the whole engine/transaxle, combination...extrapolation? The mess would be a great lampstand afterwards.
