  • Westiva 2016.... mark your calendars

July may seem like a long way off but not if you're planning a cross country drive!!!

    When: Saturday July 16th, 2016
Where: Wedge Pond, Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada (about a one hour drive from Calgary's western city limits. Use "Wedge Pond Kananaskis, AB" when searching on Google maps.)
What: Meet and greet at the pond in the morning. After our picnic lunch we'll take an afternoon cruise to grab an ice cream cone at Boulton Creek Store. This is 40km (25 mile) drive mostly along Highway 40.

Campgrounds in the area fill up fast so I would recommend making reservations.

Mount Kidd (http://www.mountkiddrv.com/) is the closest, and nicest, but there are a couple of other options that aren't too far away.

These are only about a 30-40 minute drive at most from Wedge Pond.

As for hotels the closest are located in Kananaskis Village, not far from Wedge Pond.

Lets see if we can make it back into double digits this year! We had 4 Festivas in '08, 5 in '09, 10 in '10, 5 in '11 and 4 Festivas and a Subaru Vivio in 2012, four Festivas, two Suzuki Swifts, and one lifted Kia Sportage in 2014.

    2015 attendees

Looking forward to some long distance attendees this year! Use "Wedge Pond Kananaskis, AB" when searching on Google maps.

Speaking of distances... if you're thinking of coming here are some approximate one way travel distances:

    Great Falls MT: 400 miles
    Spokane WA: 425 miles
    Portland OR: 775 miles

It's never too early to be excited about an event. I've already had interest expressed from British Columbia, Oregon, Washington and Georgia! Will this be the biggest Westiva to date???

If you haven't been to Mount Rushmore I would highly recommend including it in your itinerary. If you haven't already check out our blog of our Festiva Madness trip (link in my signature). The return portion of that trip would be very similar to your route up here.

            Five months til Westiva 2016!

For those of you from the US considering joining us this year remember that you will you will need the proper documentation to cross the border. I don't know what that entails or how long it would take to get it but it wouldn't hurt to check into it early.

Getting excited as there's been a lot of interest both here on the forum and locally. Perhaps we'll get into double digits again!

I'll be there with my B6T car. There will probably be a BP car or two as well.

Well I am not sure I will be able to make it this year.... I just started a new job and I'm not sure what coverage will be like for the summer...
90 festiva BP/G25MR swap, spec v seats, aspire brakes, FMS springs, round headlight conversion with HID's, custom exhaust, fiberglass hood, and a whole lotta bodywork

Great news on the new job but unfortunate news on the Westiva visit.
Hopefully you can work things out so that you can attend.

Would love to make the drive from Ontario, but we are already driving to Speedweek in Utah if it's a go this year. Two 6500km road trips this year might be too much.

LESS THAN THREE MONTHS TO GO!!!

Getting excited as I've had more interest than usual this year! Possibly three cars coming from Washington, a couple from Saskatchewan, one from Utah, perhaps from Montana and Georgia too! Plus the usual attendees from the Calgary area. Will we top 2010's numbers? Only time will tell.

2010 attendees... the year of the white Festiva. There's nine in the photo, Postman101 hadn't arrived when this shot was taken.

Please feel free to post any questions regarding the meet here or send me a PM.

I will get a "Who's coming to Westiva" thread up shortly.

                      Good!
It sounds like we will be coming. My family in one festiva that is. As long as i can get those seat belt bolts out without snapping them and the younger kid has recovered from heart surgery. Looks promising so far though!

Ryan, sorry to hear of the need for heart surgery for your young one! Always tough when kids have to go through that, hope recovery goes well.

As for the seat belt bolts, or any rusty bolt for that matter, I've found "Releasall" to be invaluable. Available at Canadian Tire.

Looking forward to seeing you and your family in July!

Just a quick reminder for those in the USA considering coming to Westiva.... you will need a passport to cross the border! The most recent info says to allow three weeks to gather the required documents and then another four to six weeks after that. Westiva is ten weeks away so you still have time!!!!

I still have 2 of those white festivas in my possession... lol... Sorry to say I will not be making it this year though. The time off isn't going to be available and the poor old festy is in need of an engine refresher soon.... Have a great time all, wish I could be there but we will see you all next year.
