  • bolt in sub...

would anyone be interested in a bolt in sub enclosure that would replace the passenger plastic pannel behind the rear seat? may require 2 self tapping screws and i would use tabs that would allow the rear grill assembly to help hold it in place. nothing bigger than a 10" and you can use your own amp (under the pass seat). i'm going for full functionality of the interior and a little more umph to the stereo.

only downfall that i percieve is when replacing the pass taillight bulbs, you'll have to pull the taillight instead of going through the access pannel.

i plan on doing this to my car and if it works well, building more for you guys. i'll be using reinforced 'glass and nylon to withstand the usage.

Dont you have to take the tail light off through the access door also? That is how I always have done it... 4 nuts inside there?

yeah i guess you're right.... well i'm still trying to make it bolt in, so you'd have to unbolt the sub enclosure to get to the bulbs then. besides, how often do our bulbs go bad? i've only had to replace one bulb so far.

Yup....I do not think I have ever chaged a bulb because it needed to be...just to try out brighter ones.

i'll be using reinforced 'glass and nylon to withstand the usage.
I know a little about plastics.
How are you going to handle nylon at its melt temperature 500+°F (depending upon which one you use)?

The only way I've ever handled nylon is with an injection molder.
A rather expensive piece of equipment.

If you can make a replacement for the cargo area out of glass reinforced nylon, I'd like to see if some aerodynamic enhancements to the festy's exterior might be made.
Like Air Dams, rear wheel covers (like the old Cadillacs used to have, more like wheel well extenders), and maybe rear window replacements (mostly for weight and they certainly wouldn't be transparent)

the glass reinforced nylon i speak of is layers of resin impregnated glass and resin impregnated nylon cloth sandwitched together. and a co-worker suggested that i use a steel mesh as a basic skeleton to lay the nylon and glass on for better structural rigidity.

the plan is to make a buck of the final outer shape and then lay glass and nylon layers into the buck and finish with the mesh and a layer of glass to keep it in place.

sorry, no, as i haven't started on it yet, and don't have a spare set of plastics to work with (don't want to pull the nice ones out of my cars)
