my girlfriend's festiva does this strange thing, whenever i touch the fader nob, on the factory radio, the speaker on the drivers front just starts blaring. i mean like its at full power. then when i changed the radio to a factory tape player, it moved to the passenger side. all the plugs are put in right, ant the bal and fade are working correctly.

so my question is why did changing the radio move it to the passenger side? and why does it do the crazyness only when i touch the nob? all i have to do is lightly tap it and it does that.

lol. i thought about that, but it seems to coincidental.
maybe ill try another one. theres no way it would happen three times in a row if its the radios.

Depending where the radios came from , that might be why they were taken out to begin with .

Most of the time when that stuff happens like that , it is a dirty contact in the rotary switch .

Remember some stereos that crackle and pop when you change the volume , same thing .

You might be able to take it apart and spray the rotary switches inside , that is what a repair shop would do .

If you can get it apart , just turn the knob back and forth as you spray it with contact cleaner .

factory Ford radios of that era were notorious for exactly that problem (among others). I don't recall how many I pulled for service.
