  • What is it?

I pulled some dual cone speakers from a Festiva. Attached to the postive side of the speaker by a single wire is a capactior looking object about as thick as a finger. And about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long with no markings.

What is it and do I need it?

    Thanks

    David

Yeah, blocks the really low frequencies that your speaker can't reproduce anyway and therefore reduces distortion. Generally these would be 100 or 200 microfarads for a 4 to 5 inch speaker. Tweeters use them as well but they need a much smaller one.
