I spent monday completely re-wiring my Festiva's stereo system and cigar lighter. When I bought the car there was no stereo (it was taken out and the wiring butchered). I assumed this was the same amazing wiring job that was done on the MAF sensor that I wrestled with before. I was right. After spending an hour or two finishing up the brake line I blew out on friday, it was time to do the stereo. I cut holes in the door panels and drilled holes for the screws, and I even cut the rear speaker holes. I wired and tucked all the wires and successfully set up a six speaker system. Then the hard part was the wiring for the lighter and stereo. I had to cut everything out and re-splice and re-solder all the connections. It took about 45min or so for me to just get the harness ready for the stereo. Thank God I can do wiring. Well enough about my problems. I'll post some pictures soon. I was just wondering if anyone else ran a 6 speaker system, or like me did the wal-mart special. $50 head unit, $20 5x7, $20 5 1/4, and $8 3 1/2, all and all I spent about $126 on the whole thing, including 100ft of 18gauge wire.

What I have done with my cars are 6 1/2 in the stock openings on the doors, either 4" in the stock locations in the rear, or old side kick cabinets with 6 1/2" 8" passive radiators, and them a modest Alpine or Infinity amp to dual 12" subs in a cabinet in the back behind the seats. I still like the super tuners in the Pioneer units, and the true 22 watts x 4 usually powers 6 1/2 Polks & Infinity References well enough. Biggest problem I always ran into is the flimsy doors have a bad tendency to have a harmonic at just a certain lower frequency. I just haven't tried hard enough to dampen the doors enough I guess. I tried some Dynamat I had, but the passenger door still gives me the worst trouble in all 4 I have set up. You really can set up a pretty nice system in a car on a budget if you keep on recycling things from other cars over the years etc. Mine has some pieces that I had in the Isuzu PUP I had in the mid 80s.
Oh, and I have one that got butchered up wiring wise too. I hate trying to go back and fix a hack job up in that tight of a space like that!
