Cargo area cover

Okay here's the deal I want to build my own cargo area cover to mount two 6x9's in :twisted: but I'm not sure how I should cut it out. I've seen a few people on here who have done it, Any help? Thanks.

I just paid the $40 to get two boxes for my 6x9's and sat them in the cargo area. Beats having to make a custom area for them.

lol. i wanted to do this, bought some 6x9 (actually they weren't quite that size, but close) for $4 from the thriftshop. they sounded great (they were stock Fords), but before i could get around to making a cargo cover for them (i don't have one) my dad picked up some 3-way home sterio speakers from a yard sale for $8... they sound a lot better than the 6x9s, with enough bass that you can feel it some and the trebble is crystal clear....... my point: do yourself a favor, buying $40 boxes for 6x9s doesn't seem worth it IMHO when you can probobly find some decent speakers for cheaper.......

I have two boxes for my 6x9's but I would rather cover the back cargo area and surface mount my 6x9's because I wanted to put lights around the speakers that pulse with the music. So I was asking if anyone has done this and could help me out with it. Thanks for all the input keep it coming :wink: .

Go to a grocery store that's open 24hr, and find out what days/time they get stock shipments. Go on the day/time and ask if they have any of the large cardboard sheets that are sometimes put in some pallets as a seperator (they are sometimes called "Slip Sheets"){if your in SE Michigan I can just grab you a few from my store}. Get one, or get 2 empty boxes that the papper towels come in. crawl in the back seat with the cardboard and an exacto knife or a razor blade, cut and trim to shape. Viola! instant pattern for cutting one from plywood or plexiglass. If you use the plexiglass I recomend using 2 layers for better speaker support, plus you can put the lightes between the layers, and just use 3mm bolts & washers to attach the speakers & do the spacing between layers.

Well I work stock and I know the sheets your talking about, thanks I will have to do that for my self :-) Me and my brother made one for his but we just measured cut measured cut measured cut (#$(@&#$(#&@$) measured cut, (ow my finger) measured cut, measured cut, well you get the idea>

heres an idea....

when you have the rear cargo cover secured and where you want it...put a couple of cheep 8's in there for a little better system (big low end improovement). and for mids you can customize....if your sitting in the rear seat and you put your arm on the arm rest....right about where the back of your elbow is there is enough space for a 5 1/4" speeker. customize how you like and still have great sound...go with 3 way 5's if you do that tho. you may have to trim a little metal behind where your 5 goes tho depending on the depth of your speeker. it sounds great because your mids are pointing directly toward you not competing with your lows....this was first brought up by the Eye of Ra stiva guy in the My new car sterio set up thread

Okay I've tried the cardboard already but I wasn't in the mood to make all the cuts and crap plus I ran into a few problems, such as, If I should cut around the third brake light or go under it. I'll try it again once I get my B3 out of the back and in to my car, Got to love the space .

I think that's a great Idea and all I'm just not to crazy about seeing all the crap in my cargo area :wink: .I've seen a few people mount speakers in the factory cargo covers how would that work as far as support goes do ya think? chec out my pics of the stock cargo cover i had and cut holes into for an alpine type-x component system they are 6 1/2" woofers i cut holes for just big enough to fit them in and then used the mounting pieces underneath for added strength, i also cut them in just the right place so i could keep the original factory brace underneath so it wouldnt sag. go this route and then jsut find some cheap subs/amp if you want bass that bad... it will take too much more work to custom up a new piece or try to squeeze 6x9's (overrated anyways) into there and you end up losing the brace.
