  • Battery Relocate help needed

So I am almost done with the project four eyes,.. and i am now in the process of relocating the battery.. I noticed that when i pulled the battery out of the car that there is one ground wire that is just hooked to the frame and then the power coming from the wire loom.. so hence i have a couple of questions...

    1. where is the bast place to actually put the battery (inside the car, keep in mind that i have a completely modded rear end with my sound system and no back seat.)

    2. Do I just run the ground cable from the battery back to the frame of the car no matter where it is located.

    3. What is the best way of hooking the new power cable with the existing power cable that is on the stock wire harness.

4 Is there any thing else that i have to worry about with the switch with the battery inside of the car ( It is a 800cca Optima Red Top.)

Thanks for the help, and pics from any members that have done this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Matt

no i wouldnt worry about the high cca, like you said i would move it to the trunk and the best place to gound it is to the frame, i grounded mine behind the plastics to the inside of the body no issues, make sure to run a vent line espically if you have all your electrics back there so it wont explode. try to find the biggeest positive wire as you can mine came from a amp kit i think you maybe able to steal one from an extra set of jumper cables too (if your cheap) the only issue is its a little harder to charge the battery because of the added cable i dont really have this issue i have an upgraded capri xr2 altantor so you may look to upgrade that.

yea the wire that i have to do it is 4gauge wire that is actually from Home Depot and made for a relocating kit in a semi..haha... i just have the power wire though.. but thanks for the help so far.. i am going to attempt this tomorrow and any more help would be greatly welcomed, and if i have any troubles i know who to turn to.

Your 4 gauge should be good enough. When I had my battery in the rear I had it over the passenger rear tire. It will also help you with traction in the winter;-) Right there where the seatbelt used to be on the frame is a threaded hole. You can use that bolt, and bolt your negative cable right to the frame there. I would remove a little of the paint around the hole, and also use dielectric grease on the bolt and around the hole. Run your 4 gauge wire along the harness, and if you want, for added safety I would pick up some clear tubing that the 4 gauge will fit in. This will help keep the positive wire from being nicked or damaged if you drop something on it. If you've got more questions feel free to ask.

I ran some nice 0 Gage wire in my Aspire when I did the B8-ME swap, I ran the negative and the positive the full length, I wish I would have pulled all that nice copper when I was pulling stuff off before they shredded it...

if its an optima battery you dont have to worry about a batt box or vent tube but any traditional lead/acid battery would be a bad idea to use without these
