  • Quick Sub Question

So i am still working on my sound system in the festy, and now all of the sudden the subs will be hitting just fine and then all of the sudden it will make a loud popping sound, so at first i was freaking out thinking that I had shorted something out, but i checked all of my fuses and everything is fine, wait about 30 sec, turn the subs back on and they work fine.

so my question is, what is causing my subs to act up,

all that i have checked so far is my grounds (which are all good) the fuses (all good) as well as all of the wires from the amp to the subs (also good)

so any help or things i should check??

It depends on a couple things. If you were playing it very loudly then it was probably thew voice coil (tube) bottoming out. DEFINITELY a no no. Most likely it loosened the surround of the speaker up after a few minutes allowing for full excursion, then WHAM!!!

In past experiences I have also seen this as a problem with the amp. Loose solder connections will/can cause all kinds of wierd noises after a few minutes as well when things start heating up.

Does it sound electrical (i.e. sparking or something similar) or does it sound mechanical (i.e. like something hitting another object)?

ALL of the info you have will help in troubleshooting.

Do you have the wires straight going to the subs?(+ to + & - to -) Sounds silly but it matters. Does it only happen at high volume or doesnt matter? What kind of subs are we talking about? Are they the right Ohms for that amp?

i think that i figured it out... i had blown an amp about a week ago and a friend decided to help and wired four subs up to a mono block 500 watt amp, and so i am thinking that it is that the amp is overloaded... maybe..
