  • Low down on the RE SE 12 Woofer; Box Build, Pics and Vid.

I toasted up my old sub and amp over the summer and have been reluctant to build a new system. I got a craving for some bass around a month ago so I ordered a Resonant Engineering SE 12'' Woofer. This sub is know for great sound quality and the ability to get surprisingly loud. I chose to build a ported box for it due to my Teg being a hatchback and the added low end excursion.

The box is 2cuft tuned to 33 Hertz. I still have to carpet the thing but my build is pretty much complete.

This woofer can be had for $100 on Ikesound.com. It is really a awesome price for how amazing this sub is. Comparable subs are $200 to $350.

I know this isn't really the bass crowd but I just wanted to let you guys know about this sweet sub.

Dont mind my car rattling please..............

What are you using for amps , mids and highs? I dont mind bass as long as its part of an overall sound and not just for a thump.

I am running 4 Polk 6.5'' co-ax inside while I still kept the stock tweeter in the doors. I am just running them off my headunit. I am thinking about sticking a set of 6.5'' midbass in the back instead of my co-ax, and then running 4 components in the front doors(2 in each). If I do that I will pick up another amp.

I just got a Hifonics 1208D. It is about 1100 at 1ohm, 800 at 2ohm. I am running the sub at 2ohms because it is a dual voice coil sub with 4ohms a coil.

My polks keep up with the sub pretty well. The get very loud too.

I will thow up a electronic jazz video tonight or tomorrow along with some classic rock and acoustic stuff.

Nice job on that box, back in the early 80's when bass boxes became popular I would custom build them in my basement for friends of mine.

I loved making it myself because that was the only way I could neatly fit that big of a box in the back of my car. Now most boxes are pre-made(and junk).

Yeah, it is soo hard to convince people that the pre-built boxes (99% of them anyway) do fall into the JUNK category. Especially today when they can be had for as little as $15-20.

I have a business that I run out of my garage where I do custom car audio/video and the like. I do remember back in the days when I worked at a shop when I would be doing custom stuff EVERY day. Now, when you say car stereo you get comments like "I don't like bass", or "My factory radio sounds awesome". It used to be so easy to convince people to upgrade their sound. Somewhere along the line, all of the BASSHEADS that blared their systems at every stoplight ruined it for the rest of the general public.

I am happy to see you built your own box with the knowledge that there is music at the end of the rainbow and that it isn't all about bass. Now I am not going to lie to ya and say that I don't like to crank the lower end up most of the time. But I will say that is does sound much better when the rest of it is there as well.

            Nice job!

I am actually about to buy a set of cheap door panels for the Teg that way I can try fiberglassing in more speakers. I would like to run components but the are too much money and co-ax seems to do fine for me. It would probably be a different story if my Alpine headunit did not have a high pass filter.

I run everything above 80hz to my speakers, and send anything below 120hx to the sub.

I LOVE you car Gomez! I think it is best looking on this sight by far! What do you have in it audio wise?

I think the reason the people here may not be big on bass is because our cars have 50 amp alternator and a bass system would cause our cars to immediately implode.

Just upgrade to a higher amp alternator.
