Getting ready to put in stereo. need to know if face kit is really needed.

    No
Any DIN mount will fit in place and tighten up with the fold out tabs.
If you want to make it plug & play, a Mazda adapter will keep you from cutting the wiring. Metra has adapter # 80-1781 for this for example.

If you're car has the stock radio/stereo in it you will need a kit. If there's an aftermarket head unit in there you won't need it.

for fitment's sake, a kit is the way to go and you can get them anywhere (craigslist, eBay, you're local jobber....)

What kind of fit kit do you need? I have 4 in Festivas as we speak, and have never used one. I do like the wiring adapters, and use them. These are two in cars I have with me at the shop. The DIN adapter that comes with the unit is all I have ever needed with the ground screw with rubber bumper to steady it in the back. They have been secure, and fit like they should IMO.

the kit i have/use takes up the slop that you'd have by using hte factory hole. it's not much (Scrappy doesn't use the kit, the LX does) but i can tell a differance and i have to use a home made spacer in scrappy to keep things tight at the cage.

              http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Car-R...item4a83e79402 here...

metra part # 99-5510 i find their kits to fit very well.

Hmm.... I never had a problem with that. Where have yours been loose at that you found you needed the spacer?

Ok got it all installed. Finally found a wiring harness for it. Had a issue with the power on it.It would not turn off when car is off. After an hour of fuming over it and checking each and every wire, I find its the ignition itsself. It wouldnt go back all the way. Will get pics up today.

                      Here are the pics.

                      Cheap speakers from Meijer

Ripper Deck. Cheapy but it puts out really good sound. I've has this for three years and not a problem with it even after having subs hooked up to it.

Looks like it will do the job. Would the speakers not fit from behind? You may want to consider the same for your rear package tray side mounts if you retain factory wires to balance it a little, and you likely could use those in the factory holes in the doors also.
Everything is there except wiring to mount speakers there, and the cutout is outlined on the panel. You can mount up to 6 1/2 in those positions too!

I mounted a set of Infinity Reference 4" from behind when they didn't fit from the front, so you probably can. Just reverse the clips to the speakers themselves. Drivers side can be tight, but if you remove the duct underneath, take out the two screws to move the fuse panel over for the install, they should go in. Then you can reinstall the covers to protect the speakers.
