  • Tweeter location question

I have a set of Cerwin Vega speakers that come with seperate tweeters. Where should I install them? The main speaker will be installed in the stock location in the door. It seems that the easiest spot to install the tweeter is in the door somewhere close to the main one.

How would it work if I were to install the tweeters on the flat part of the dash pointing up at the windshield. One would be just to the left of the instrument cluster and the other one at the opposite end sort of above the air vent.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Ian, I'm not sure the shape of them, but I would look at the inner door where the mirror panel is. Nice flat surface.

Install Pride power windows and then install tweeters in the holes where the hand cranks used to be.

Tweeter frequncies are highly directional. If you mount them pointing to the roof, you will lose most of the sound. The best location would be somewhere facing you (not too close) but that's rarely available. High on the door panel is an okay location, and there's an indentation on the door metal that allows you to place it there.

In the location on the dash the tweeters would be pointing at the windshield and "bouncing" the sound in towards the passengers. It may not work anyways as I have yet to see if there would be any interference with the air vent ducts.

              Kia tweeters

Kia mounted their tweeters on the inner sail plate.

I have a spare set of interior delete plates or whatever those would be called and some tweeters that Anthony gave me (Met him when I picked up Nancy from Oscar). Anyway I thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm going to try and mount them later. There will definitely be some clearance issues. Depending on how much space it needs I'll either dremel it down or put a spacer in.

I picked up a set of BMW Nokia tweeters for free at the yard last week. Perucho is correct about installing them in the indentation above the round speaker hole in the door. You cannot put tweeters in the door handle holes. The tweeters need almost a two inch hole.

Here is what I've got currently.

With a little more modding it will be perfect. It would be awesome if I could get a pyramid shaped piece to add to the depth which would make it much easier and look better.

They really add to the overall sound and look pretty good (look better now than in the picture but you get the idea)

That grill will help make it look really good in the door panel.

best place is facing straight up tward the windshield, the glass will then bounce the sound tward you. for our cars, it's the "best" option aside from building a pod to face the speakers directly to you. the other option is to place them at the top of the "A" pillar facing you and install a passive time delay on the driver side of about 3ms.
