  • DUAL and JVC brand

I trust you guys' judgment and opinion more than the forum for the truck I recently acquired.

are DUAL and JVC any decent with their car stereos?

I need a cheap MP3 capable stereo since the factory stereo is shot, and I'm going to be driving the truck until I get some parts I need for Dread. It's driving me batty with no tunes for the co mute to and from work.

I would personally stay away from both brands. My X g/f had a Dual CD player with a TV on it that went to shit soon after she got it. They refused to honor the warranty on it too. I had a JVC Cd player with the motorized flip face and it didn't last very long at all and started overheating and shutting off not long after it was installed. Just a personal opinion based on my own experiences

I have a Kenwood in my car and couldn't be happier

It was pricey though, $199, but it was a fancy Sirius-ready model. I am pretty sure Kenwood also makes some $80-90 models which would probably suit you well?

        Kenwood's a good brand.

I have a rather ancient Kenwood CD player in my car and it has never given me any troubles, despite 10 years of use.

Alot of times you get what you paid for applies with car stereos. I never liked the jvc tape player I have. sound quality is terrible. I've never any problems with my pioneer mp3 player or the deh-16 and they see alot of country road usage. Wouldn't own a sony they have disc eject problems although they have a baseline mp3 player for 110-115. If your wanting something cheap that might be the ticket.

looks like I'll pony up the coinage for another Kenwood since y'all have had good exp with them, and the one in Dred has been good and solid (although it killed my food budget for 2 months at the time)

thanks for the input guys, I'ld rather drop the 150 or more for a good than have made a 70$ mistake.

how much does a subscription cost? I think it was either Sir or XM that has Doctor Demento. It'ld be nice to listen to him again since he drop from the stations around here many years back.

$12.95/month, but there are a number of annual plans... I'm paid up for the whole year for $142.45

If you like it enough to get a second receiver though that one can be activated for just $6.99/month.

Dunno about dr demento, www.sirius.com for the chanel guide... look at the what's on section

I agree with Andrew if you're going to keep satellite radio i'd go with sirius. I had xm and I never really cared for it. Always had to search stations for a good song. I'm read many posts comparing the two and I'm not alone. Alot of people dropped xm and got sirius. Just beware that 12.95 will probably go up to 14.95 before you know it. I started out a 9.95 for xm and then it went up 12.95 wasn't justifiable after that.

There are some really really good stations on Sirius too. I recommend channels 9, 11 and 26.

9 is the Pulse, general 90s and today music, 11 is BBC radio one, lots of interesting music and the best morning show ever, and 26 is left-of-center, which is alternative and indie. All good stuff. Can find just about anything else ever too.

I'd recommend buying for a year myself, just listen to it online for a day or two to make sure you'll like it. It's a lot cheaper that way.
