  • Forgive my ignorance!

    Hola comrades!

I just want to apologize in advance if what I'm about to ask sounds foolish.
Honestly I know close to nothing about car mechanics/electronics, though I am trying to learn...so here goes.

I want to upgrade the audio in my 91 L with decent 4 speakers, an amp and at least one good sub.
Additionally I'd like to put in a small train horn (lol).

As far as the installation goes, I can probably figure it out by research and receiving everyone's help here, but here's the silly part.

Can a Festiva handle all of this stuff at once? I mean will I blow some kind of fuse, or short something out if everything is hooked up to such a small and simple system like the Festiva?

Ideally i'd like to have both of the above installed in the car but is it feasible?

    thank you in advance!

Yes it is. You don't need a lot of power to have a good sound system, it depends on what you use. Just get efficient speakers. Don't get them at walmart.
The train horn sounds like a waste of money, but it's your car! Go for it!

at the very least do the protege' alternator upgrade. If you're really looking to push some speakers throw a 100amp alternator at it. It'll take a bit of work.

When completely installed and all working, if you blow the horn, the car will stall!!!! LOL

I've got an amp and sub and pretty decent sound system in both my festivas and have never had an issue. But doing the sound system is fun project for a beginner. It doesn't take much to make the sound system better!

I had some high current Alpine amps in my previous system with stock alt and never had an issue. Make sure you use proper sized wire and DEFINITELY fuse it PROPERLY to protect the car.

My system consists of 4 Infinity Reference 4"+1 speakers in stock locations, a JVC headunit, and a 600w low-profile amplified 8" sub with remote (SSL 8" sub) under the driver's seat. All of that runs well on the stock wiring and sounds excellent. My advice would be to get some sound-deadening material like dynamat or roadkill and put it under the carpet, behind all the paneling, and above the headliner. That will greatly reduce road noise and reduce any vibration, as well as give you a nicer sound inside the car.

Has anyone documented doing the sound deadening? Pics? Sound difference? Products? I've been interested in this for a long time but don't want to spend the money unless it's worth it. Or if there are cheaper ways that work well.

I'm not sure if anyone has wanted to spend the money to do it, honestly. There are several products available, and are used in professional installs for SQ challenges, but they can get a tad pricey. Check often on ebay and craigslist if you're not trying to buy those tiny squares they gouge you with at the big box places.

Yeah that's what I was thinking.
I've wondered if people have tried maybe like a truck bed liner. Has anyone tried that? I assume that would help dampen and reduce noise.

Sorry for the thread hi jack :p But I figure you'd find it interesting as well haha

Oh yeah, I bought an amp kit with a 50A fuse for my sub. Only mod I did.

You guys are absolutely awesome, and hilarious!
I love this forum nearly as much as I do my first festy (and that's saying a lot)!

Is it really possible to stall the car, or was that a joke? lol

At any rate, I really look forward to upgrading my audio, so look for my posts in the future! I am certainly going to need some help. I'm thinking I'll do it bit by bit, speakers...then subs etc. It'll be amazing, can't wait!!

^^before I put in a capacitor with my stereo, I did one time stall the car from the massive power draw of the stereo
