  • Stock deck compatibility

Hi there the previous owner I bought my festiva from installed this horrible panasonic deck that needs to go. Another issue is that the rear speakers don't work, maybe because of the terrible deck.

I've looked around for a stock deck to replace it with, so I can use one of these http://allgeeksallthetime.com/wp-con...6NX5LSL500.jpg because I don't use CDs only my ipods, and can't find a festiva anywhere.

Could I use an aspire deck? does it have to be a certain year? I found a ford deck off a 97 mustang maybe that would fit?
Bottom line is I want a cassette player, as silly as it may sound. ANYTHING THAT WORKS PLEASE TELL ME

You could probably use an Aspire deck, but it's not plug and play; you'd have to wire it up. Or just get a new CD deck that has that plugin you need.

They make what's called "reverse wiring harnesses" for cars that people have cut the wiring out of instead of just buying that extra $8 harness from Scosche. If you have the same size DIN unit from just about anything else, they should make that harness for it. Then you use the same principle as an aftermarket unit by buying that $8 Scosche harness for the Festiva (88 RX7) and mating the two together, you will have a (GM, Mitsu, etc) radio in your Festiva.

        Or there's a $200 Jensen unit...

Maybe a Semi truck deck for $100.

Or with a CD, for $119, albeit it's a PYLE...

WTF- I SWEAR I posted in this thread as the first response- I said an Aspire deck wouldn't work directly IIRC, and he should get a HU with AUX/ iPod USB input. Where did it go? :/

why not get a decent Head Unit ($80 or so) that has the AUX plug in on the front? The quality would be much better than doing the cassette thing. If you are unsure what AUX is- it is a 3.5mm jack (size of your headphone jack) one end plugs into your head phone hole the other plugs straight into the head unit. Works great and sounds better than the cassette adapter. An aux cable can be found for 1-10 dollars depending on what quality you want.

IMO, a homemade AUX cable will ALWAYS be better quality than a storebought one. I have 2, each one about 5 feet long. Buy 2 radioshack stereo 3.5mm AUX plugs, then take 3 wires cut to equal length and solder them together, matching each terminal. Take a long piece of heatshrink tubing and insulate the whole length of cable. It costs about $2.12 for the end plugs, and the wire and heatshrink is something most auto mechanics or electronic hobbyists already have. For the quality homemade workmanship of the finished product, the price can't be beat. It also comes with the satisfaction that you did it yourself, which is priceless.

my missus picked up a head unit with ipod/iphone compatability. Costs $130 or so and you can control from either the head unit or ipod/iphone with a touch of a button.. all you need is the charger usb cable for iphone/ipod. try and find a rear usb port head unit and run the usb cable behind the dash..missus's brother did it on his turbo micra , looks neater. just my 5c.
