  • Obviously need new alternator, will this fit in my Festiva

I just bought a 1993 (I think) Ford Festiva, 3 door, 5sp, 1.3L carby. I understand that the factory alternators are 60A. I am going to be running a 600w peak 4 channel amp + a 600w peak monoblock. Also going to have 8 speakers and a 15" sub. Ive done the math (peak power divided by RMS multiplied by the fuse amperage) and calculated that both amps will draw 20-25amps each. Plus a 9" clarion screen head unit thats powering four 4" Type S speakers.

I've read that with the headlights on and engine running it only allows 30A left over so I will need a new alternator, though I will find out on the weekend. I've also read that Mazda 323, 626, Ford Probes etc bolt in but just wanted to confirm before buying will this one fit:

    Cheers

First of all, welcome to the site! There are a few threads that already discuss this. You just have to use the search feature. Here are a few.

    Upgrade alternator?
    Upgrading Alternators?

With that many speakers, I would guess you'll need something fairly substantial.
    BP, Aspire brakes, stock trans.

Back when i was big into stereos, i ran the stock alt. with a good size capacitor, it did the job lol

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

I bet the stock Capri alternator would fit, too. It's a 70A. I have a whole bunch

There's also an 85A version for the early build Capri that would also interchange I'd guess

I'll check out the threads linked above in a bit

          Hey,

Thanks for your help. I've read all these posts on alternator's but they all say different things. Some say the stock alternator's are 50A, some say 60A and others say 45A, so I'm trying to figure out what the actual amperage is and weather or not that alternator that I've linked there will bolt into my Festiva.

          Cheers,

          Nick.

maybe capacitors will solve the dimming problem? I am not 100% sure though
