  • Dynamatting

I wasn't sure whether this would be better placed in Custom Audio or here, but I figured that Repair gets more traffic.

I have an 89 Festiva L, 4 speed, etc. etc.

I'm going to remove the shoddy old carpet and replace it with a rubber flooring. Underneath, I plan on giving the floor pan a liberal coating in a sound deadener of some kind.

I was planning on using Dynamat, but I thought I would see if anyone has any other suggestions before I did so. Also, any hints or tricks would be most welcome.

And if anyone has done it before and has a suggestion as to how much Dynamat I might need, that would be appreciated too.

Dynamat = Expensive.. Your paying for the name.
BrownBread=Not as Expensive but not inexpensive.
MFM Window Wrap = Inexpensive and works, but wasn't meant for this application.

What about using a roll in bed liner? Would this work?

I used the MFM wrap on my BP car. It took 2 evenings to do the car and it was a bit of work. I've never used any of the other products so I can't compare to them.

Which window wrap is it? there seem to be a couple of different types, such as Flex, PSX20, and Butyl.

the website, by the way, is:

MFM Building Products is a manufacturer of exterior, waterproofing membranes such as low slope roofing membranes, roofing underlayments, window flashing tapes, waterproofing membranes and accessory products for the construction industry.

but, the window wrap is a hundred dollars or more, depending on which type you get.

Is there a place we can get smaller amounts?

How well does this stuff work, anyway?

i've been having good luck with Great Stuff expanding foam for those hollow areas and around the joints at body pannels. it deadens any resonance and doesn't weigh anything. cheapest place i found it was Wal-Mart, they also have cheaper alternatives, but look for something that won't shrink and will remain flexable.
