  • 6x9 mods for a Ford Festiva

    hi there guys and gals,

I have a question for the folks out there about 6x9's

I want a setup that consists of the following:

    4" in the front speakers
    6x9's in the rear
one moderately sized sub for the boot.

My question is: are there any brackets that i can buy to attach 6x9's to then attach those brackets to the existing 4" rear speaker holders to keep the existing look of the car?

Here is a basic diagram to help with people who are of a visual nature.

Layer 1 - Existing Festiva speaker enclosure
Layer 2 - Custom 6x9 plate to attach to enclosure
Layer 3 - New 6x9 Speaker to attach to plate.

Any ideas for this at all as i want to keep the existing look as much as possible.

I also had an idea to modify this type of parcel shelf too that looks the goods to have as a parcelshelf (with slight modification and looks nice to fit 6x9's in as well)

any ideas at all, please leave feedback and suggestions as well.

    Thanks.

That shelf is awesome. It looks like it'd fit the Festiva almost exactly, if the dimensions were correct. ...BTW, what is a 'parcel shelf'? Is that the same as our 'cargo cover'?

I wouldn't use 6x9's. A lot of the time, 6" or even 8" component systems will sound 100x better, and with the placement of those speakers, you'd do well to put your high-range in there instead of what looks like a 4" coaxial.

The bargain 3 way speakers sold at flea markets are much better than many name brand items from 10 years ago. Get ones with rubber surrounds chase down your rattles, wind noise and they will perform. Brand new cars bump with really terrible speakers that die after just a few years with not much power

You can fit 5 1/4" rounds in the stock spots with a little creativity (while maintaining a stock look). 6 x 9's in the stock spot I would say would be way more trouble than they are worth. There is a thread to build your own cargo cover (parcel shelf) out of some plywood. If you did that you could put almost any speakers you wanted.

I've got 6.5" rounds in the back and 4" in the front then a 12" sub and it sounds great. The sub does all the bass so all you need are the highs and mids. So really the 4" speakers you can put only highs through and then maybe some 5 1/4 rounds you can have the mid/highs go through then all the low bass through the sub and you should be good to go.

Here is the link to build your own:

I put some 6x9 in the factory rear speaker location with a decent amount of cutting but i never got around to reinforcing it and the plastic cracked, but looked factory.
