Also what 4" did you go with?

What I meant in my OP was the side plastic that the 4" are mounted in. I was gonna dremmel that out to house some 6" or 6"x9"s.
Now that I see bobyspiders setup, I might do that and use them as "woofers" do 6" in the rear plastic oem's, and upgrade the fronts to better 4".

I see the boss 4" at Walmart for $15. The reviews all around seem like they are a good "budget" speaker. Any thoughts?
Kill it with Fire? I don't get it.

And I wouldn't get budget speakers if you are gonna stay with 4 inchers. I bought some pretty expensive ones cause my GFs dad works in Audio/Video and I got 2(2x) pairs of the JL Audio C2-400X speakers and a new Alpine Headunit for just over 300 bucks.

I love music and listen to it loud with the windows down...when I can. The fronts rattle a bit cause the speaker covers don't fit snug I don't think. And sometimes depending on the song it does seem to make them out. But for the most part I've been happy with mine. I'll try to get a sample audio tomorrow for you. What kind of music do you normally listen to?

Ummm... I'm running 4" pioneers all around. They are 100wt rms, It's a Sony Head unit. Fosgate 250w amp (currently) and a 10" MTX 5500 in a sealed box. (Though I might go back to my ported JL 8"... My mirror vibrates just fine, and it sounds CLEAN. Video never does sound justice...

I'm not sure what you want to accomplish. But if I had a festiva and wanted a budget stereo these are the things I would get minimum.
I would stick with the 4" speaker sizes, and I would make sure they all match front+rear+ could remain out of sight behind the stock panels. So I would get these infinity kappa 42.9i. They are $65 a pair with free shipping so $130 for all 4 speakers. That's a great price and they are the same company as Harmon kardon, and I think jl. Here's the link.

Then I would get a 5 channel amplifier. That way you don't under power your speakers from the deck and send clipped signals to your speakers which can ruin them faster than overpowering them. Plus you would only have to mount one amp since you don't want much space taken up. And it will leave you with the option for a small sub either now or in the future. But I would at least get 1 sub whether it be an 8" or a 10". I know you said you don't want a sub box but you need a sub for the lower frequencies. You don't want to squeeze bass out of your door speakers ever other than mid bass and high bass which is 80hz-320/400hz. I'm sure you could build a small box and place it under one of your seats with an 8" or a 10".

Here's the five channel I would get. It would power these infinitys perfect with 75w rms at 2 ohms which would leave you headroom since the speakers run 50w rms at 2ohms. and would leave you room with 2-300 watts rms for a subwoofer. And it has all the great settings for sound tuning like active crossovers to cut the low frequencies from your door speakers. As well as cutting the high frequencies from the subwoofer. It would clean up the sound a lot. And it is a class d amplifier which is more efficient with electricity which is great since our cars have small alternators you get more sound with less energy wasted as heat. I know $285 may seem pricey to some. But for a quality amp with all its options it is on the cheaper side of high quality amps and its MSRP on infinitys website is 499.99. Plus the footprint of these amps is pretty small for the power output. I have the kappa four and the kappa one and I was suprised how small and densely powerful they are.

So amp +door speakers would put you at $415 for a quality budget stereo. And all you would need left would be a small subwoofer later. That is what I would do if I had a festiva and it would sound great guranteed.

Here's an 8" infinity reference subwoofer that is $58 that would work well with the setup. At 4ohms it would run 250w rms which is a close match to the amp output 200w rms at 4ohms.

If it were me I would want a 10" I would get the kappa 100.9w runs at 350wrms and is selectable impedence. So with the amp at 2ohms it puts out 300w rms. But it is about $125 I have 2 of then they sound amazing.

Shop Top Brands for home theater, car stereo, dvd players, audio, video, camcorders, digital cameras,stereo,speakers,telephones,mp3,cd,receiver,review,mini disc, subwoofers, amplifiers TVs and more..

So speakers $130 amp $285 sub $58= 476 for a good budget stereo which would not let you down if tuned correctly. That is what I would buy if I had a festiva and wanted the bare minimum stereo setup. Anything less than that would be lacking in sound/dissappointing.

So let's recap 4stock size speakers, one five channel amp, one small subwoofer 8"-10" your in heaven.

And if you wanted a high quality non budget stereo I would go another direction but that's another day and a lot more dollars.

Kill it with fire was referring to prafestons pic of the shelf from the PrO.

I like the idea of a decent setup but: this is not the car I want to put a lot of money into the audio. I love that I can hear almost everything road related in the car. Woofers=weight, I'm trying not to add too much of that to the car ,I like to drive aggressive and fast. Plus I don't want to chance someone breaking into it.
I found some pioneer 4" at Walmart that sounded great. I purchased a get of the schoche 4's to test them for the day since the pioneers will take three days to be shipped to the store.

PS. My head unit is a 250watt pioneer that came out of my z. Plenty of punch for some 4"s. Might add a small amp if I put an 8" in the hatch panel

My only issue is, I use my hatch! I had 2 X 12" subs back there, and it took up the entire cargo area. My 10" or even better my 8" in the ported box are compact, but a lot of boom!

It was killed! Not with fire though. I just tossed the whole thing in the trash. Though I did keep all the speaker wire just in case!

What's the model number of your deck?

One subwoofer wouldn't add much weight here's my last aspire had a minimum setup with false floor built with amps underneath. With one sub built into it. The car had full suspension, lowered, brakes ,rims ,tires, fenders flared etc. Drove super aggressive and it did just fine. I did a 700 mile drive from Seattle to Montana at 100+mph in fifth gear redline all the way and the extra weight did nothing. My car was still just as planted and solid at high speed in turns and straights so that wouldn't be a problem. The floor and amps and subs added maybe 40lbs. And the removed jack and spare etc shed 25+. So it isn't that bad. Here's a link to the photos of all the rest of the photos of the car.

Here's the sub built into the falso floor and you can see the tweets in the rear panels.

Sorry i forgot i did 6.5" instead, the previous owner did the horrible hack job with the 6x9. I liked it this way because it was hidden you had to actually look through thr grill to notice it wasn't the stock speaker. unfortunately they were some cheap speakers that came with the headunit and they sounded horrible, i even took them out of the mounting location to check but they were junk.

Rockinranger: that is exactly what I was talking about doing. How doesn't he plastic hold up for you?

As far as audio clips go: I like all kinds of music. So lemme hear what you got!!

it cracks on the side, i figure if you epoxy something in for support on the outside edge (just inside the lip) everything would be fine (probably would have been fine except i live 3 miles down what is barely a driveable road). Wouldn't take much just something to keep it from flexing, this old plastic is getting weaker all the time. If i get another festiva i will be doing it again. I have designs for a pretty much completely hidden sound system that won't loose me hardly any room with 2 10" subs, 2 6x9s 2 6.5"s 2 4" and some small dome tweeters which should be way more than enough for a car this small.

I Think if your putting some 4 inchers in it should hold up fine. Just use a thick piece of mdf for the mounting point.
Here's a pic of my current speakers mounted. I know its a different car but same idea. I used foam to seal the mdf to the trim panel to make it as airtight as possible to seperate the rear wave of the speaker from the front.

I noticed that the festivas have no backing on the panels to help enclose the rear of the speakers if you wanted to increase sq of your speakers you could enclose the speakers on the backside to the wood mount. You could take some of these speaker covers and just seal to the wood panel and they would make mini enclosures. It would be great if you could seal up the fronts as well but I'm not sure how easy or difficult that might be because I don't own a festiva myself. I would need pics of the mounting points.

Here's an eBay listing they are $10 pair.

This would be a cheap way to upgrade the sound quality of the speakers via frequency response.
