Typically the rms power handling of a speaker is "about" 1/2 of the max rating. BUT that also depends on what you are listening to and how you listen to it. Distortion is the enemy of any speaker and quality power delivery will allow the speaker to handle power a bit higher than its rating. It is impossible to recommend anything with the info given. What music? How loud? How much money? What type of enclosure? What kind of car (assuming Festiva here lol)? What kind of charging (also assuming stock Festiva alternator)? And most importantly, what is the speaker impedance (you cannot buy an amp without knowing this info) and how is the quality of the install? These are all proper questions necessary to answer your question best.

I like to overpower all of my speakers. BUT I also have an oscilloscope to properly set all of the gains in the system starting at the source. The amplifier gain is not a volume control as most people think. It is a level matcher. Designed to "match" proper volume levels of all equipment in the chain.

If I were you I would search for a a smaller single channel amplifier with a power output of around 200-250 watts. I will say that there are a lot of brands on this planet and any number of them are capable of doing quality work. Don't get cought up in the brand war that this can turn into. If you want you can pm me and I will give you some good recommendations.

Run a good "Quality" 8 Ga wire and make sure of a PERFECT ground connection (very important). Use a good set of RCA's. A good wire kit will run you about $40-60. A lot of guys here will say get the cheap stuff but I will say the difference IS noticeable. Please let me know if you need more help.

Most amps are rms power at half their fused current. So if it has a 40 amp fuse, take half that x 14, or roughly 300 watts rms

I already have the sub and sub box... free but I just have stock 4" speaker which are Kenwood brand now but I would want the corner speakers to be for Mids and Highs and have the sub do all the bass... my radio does not go loud enough for the 4" speakers to have distortion, so I think i will be ok

The 4" speakers are pretty good down to about 4-500hz minimum. And that is with a proper crossover installed. Now depending on how loud you listen to your music and the quality of sound you want, you should be good with installing a simple 100mf capacitor in series with each of the 4 inchers if you are hooking it up to your radio. That will give you a 6db/oct crossover slope starting at about 400hz. That will keep unheard distortion to a minimum allowing for less listener fatigue (really nice when on long trips). Then set the crossover on your sub amp to somewhere around 150-200hz Low pass. these are not optimum settings for either speaker since there is a BIG "mid-bass" gap with the size difference of your speakers.

I tend to be a bit pickier than most people with sound. I hope I am not giving too much info or taking away from your thread. I just want you to have the best possible sound with what you have already. Every speaker needs a crossover to operate within the designed parameters.I just like it when people ask audio questions. I wish there were more people into it like there used to be in the mid-late 80's to late 90's. Those were some fun times.

I would also suggest trying to separate the front and rear of the speakers in the stock locations as much as possible. Foam baffles that surround the speakers themselves really do make a huge difference in the sound of even a stock speaker.
