  • spl for db drag

    just a few questions
    has anyone done one?
can you get a bigger alt for the car say around 150 to 200
how hard is it to run wires throw the fire wall (i mean alot of wire like 5 to 10 runs of 1/0
whats the best spl people have done.

At this time i have a ford focus that hit a 147 but i need 155 for next year so i want to find the right car for the job. the reason I'm looking in to festiva's is there alot like the panda from England
any help would be great and would be a real help

the best i've hit so far is 143, i'm pretty sure it's on the passenger side firewall there is a rubber plug that's roughly 1.5 inches in diameter which is plenty of room for power wires to go through
i think festivas are great for stereo, as long as you put dynomat in it, almost all the body panels on mine vibrate like crazy

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

I'm currently hitting a 147.9 in Mazda Tribute SUV ...

If a festiva uses the same alternator as a mazda 323 then you can get a 105 amp alternator. that's a direct bolt in... otherwise you have to adapt a bigger ford Mustang alternator to it which is a pain.

You don't need more than 1 pass of 1/0 guage from the alternator to the back of the vehicle. For SPL specially if you want to hit high numbers more batteries will do more good.

What/how many amplifiers you going to use.. and which subs?... will you be building a wall?...

My friend Dan and I fixed up his 88 Civic hatch with no wall and hit a 154.3 . Just took 2400Wrms and 2 10" Kicker L7's in a big custom made ported box.

Feel free to ask any questions concerning your install.. I'm a car audio/security installer for the last 5 years and an AudioDrag SPL judge (Canadian Competition circuit using official DB drag microphones and software)

I've seen some Festivas clip their amps soooo bad before..

If you don't have an a/c you can put a big alt in the place of the compressor by fabbing small brackets.. that's what I did. I added a 160a 1 wire alt that feeds 2 industrial optima yellow tops.. The electrical system in the Festiva just seems too dainty to handle a high amp alt. I figured it best just to keep a big system separate..

in db drag you can only have one batt for street class

at the moment in using two ten dd and two American bass 200.1 around 6000 wrms
the more strand of 1/0 the better each strain will can .1 it adds up

I used to compete in Street 1-2 back in 2000/2001 and back then you were allowed only the OEM alternator. I got bumped to super street 1-2 no wall because I had a 180 amp alternator. was hitting 151.8 with the old mic back then. I'm too up on the current DB drag rules. What elevation are you at?

one more thing dawg, i really dont know how you could hit 157 dbs with a walmart amp, what subs do you use, what kind of alternator, how many batteries, how many ohms does the amp put out, how many RMS watts per sub and amp. what kind of wire, do you use a cap? i would love to know these things and see some pics, or r u 2 ghetto 4 dat?
