  • enclosure for 10" sub/ amp location questions

Hellos, new to the forum, and car audio. So far I've got a new head unit, and new 4.5" speakers all around. Massive improvement. Now I am putting in a 700w pioneer amp, and a 10" 1000 w sub. I am planning on building my own enclosure for the sub. however this is the first time I've made a sub enclosure. Should I just go with a sealed box? what are the benefits of the ported or bandpass type enclosures? My plan was to make a sealed box with an angled face to point the sub up, and back towards the glass. I want the sub to be off to the side to preserve hatch space. I'll also probably put in a new 1/4" plywood floor to replace the flimsy Masonite. what sort of problems should I expect? am I on the right track? Also I am planning on mounting the amp to the top, or side of the sub enclosure, is that an alright spot? or do I need to try to mount it closer to the head unit and front of the car to minimize power wire length? thanks,

well, first off, are you talking about MAX watts or RMS watts.. you should really go with an amp that is pretty close of above the RMS of the subwoofer, and right now i myself have a 10" memphis PR (400 RMS) with a 350 watt RMS alpine v-power amp in a ported box. the port in my opinion sounds alot better becasue it lets the bass escape. i mounted my amp on the side of the box and the sub (which i moved) is now pointing up twards the roof. it sounds really good, good luck with your project.

thanks for all the help. yes my amp is rated higher than the sub, the amp will ahndle up to 380 watts rms, while the sub pulls 350 so I should be fine there.

I have the new floor cut, and carpeted. looks great, and it is a big improvement over the warped masonite. I also finished off the box tonight. I just got it covered. put it in the car, and it looks great. question is now do I mount it facing the sub towqards the glass, or on it's side with the sub facing towards the rear right corner?

when it finally goes into the car do I need to mount the box to the floor? would a couple of small L brackets holding it in place do the trick?

I'll try for some pictures in the next day or so to help with suggestions, and so everyone here can see what I am asking about.
