  • Standard Transmmissions?

Hi I've had my festiva for quite awhile now and bought a new car, I was going to sell it but just couldn't do it. I have decided to make it into a small project car. I don't plan on spending a lot of money right now (going through college) but as soon as I'm out thats gonna be a different story! My plan Is to keep it a B3 but build up the power N/A I got a couple ideas already. Not looking for crazy horsepower just wanna be different from everyone. Not that theres nething wrong with ne of you!!

The first thing I wanted to do was make the car standard. Now that being said, I have looked over the site about swaping the tranny for a 5spd but could not find the Info I was looking for...

What I was wondering was, since I'm going to change the tranny, What tranny's are there out ther that will be a direct bolt up to the stock B3 and mounts, that will be stronger internally than that of a festiva 5 spd?
    Or
What tranny's will fit the engine and need some adjustments? and what parts will be beeded to do the swap? ( ie : axles, new bracket, etc..)

    On another note!
Does anyone know about a different head other than the B3 head that will bolt on to the B3 block??

Anyways just wondering. Thanks for any help!!

Thats a sweet idea, I recomend using a escort gt tranny or capri xr2 one just so you dont run into problems with slipping or breaking trannys plus they are geared for 142 mph. On another note, I would look into getting a custom equal length header made. Curious why not just get a b6? it bolts right in, its 100 hp compared to 68 and they are alot more responsive to mods.

wait you know what I am not sure if you would be able to use one of those trannys or not. I know alot of people use festiva trannys on b6t's and bp's but I am not sure if you can do the oposite and use the b6t tranny or bp tranny on the b3

I thought about the b6 swap but I want to be totaly different . If you go to a car show you might see other cars(other than festiva's) with a b6 and theres might be pretty nice, but really... how many other cars at shows have b3's with performance upgrades?? now thats something different to bring to a show..

I know theres not alot of aftermerket thing for the b3, but thats ok because I want to make things of my own so that no matter what, no one will have exactly what I will!

        About the tranny's ..
Will they bolt up to the stock mounts for my auto tranny?? Will I have to use the axels out of the escort or capri too?? How about steering knuckles?? will they fit into the festiva knucles?

        Thanks for the help

For starters, read the transmission info in the Engine Swap Guide, which is stickyed in the N/A Engine Swaps forum.

For an education on axles, go to www.cvaxles.com/partsF.htm which is about Ford CV axles. It's amazing how many different axles there are for one model of car. But you will probably need to use either Festy MT or AT axles, because the ones from any other donor car would be too long, since those cars are wider. Just an educated guess here. If this is correct, knuckles aren't an issue of course.

Two things to check and compare on the Festy tranny and the donor tranny: spline count, and distance from the end of the driver-side axle stub to the end of the passenger-side axle stub. If those are the same on both trannys, the Festy axles will work.
