  • swappable transmissions

i have been looking around on this forum and i cannot find any information about what manual transmissions are swappable with the stock engine...i just need to know what car i can take the transmission out of for the stock engine.......i was thinking maybe something out of an espire? also if anyone has an old transmission they want to get rid of or want to sell i would be willing to buy it...unfortunately there are no junk yards in my state that have festivas

    i have a 1993 festiva...not sure which model

You did not say what area you lived in. And I doubt there are not any festiva's in your area. But to answer your question. The only direct swap for tranny's is the festiva units. 4 or 5 speed. and they are all 3 bolt. Site is wrong.

I had a five speed put into my '89L which was originally a 4 speed. The 5 speed is the same tranny with an OD gear added on, so it will weigh a few pounds more, that's all.

well I've called every place with in my area and everyone says they don't have any festivas in there junk yards....and I've called to auto zone about getting a transmission......1000 dollars and I've called places about rebuilding my tranny and no one in the area will touch it....only guy that would fix it said it'd be 950 something dollars....but i think me and my friends will just make a road trip of it

            thanks

well ive been having a problem with my 89 4 spd. Its a carb of course and the diff was making a lot of noise. Then my clutch was going bad so i decided to swap out to a 5spd with a new clutch. but i could not get a festy tranny at the time so i bought a aspire tranny and brake swap all for 300 usd. It worked, just fine, and yes its got different mounts. All you got to do is use the festy rear tranny mount and the aspire front mount turned upside down and cut to fit. There is a little work involved to get it right , but the end results are fine. But this is with a carbed cross member so a FI might be different? i hope this helps.

BTW. For all those who have the aspire brake swap and have the spedo problem, this cures it
              went from a 93 b6t festy t0 a 89 carbed 4spd! what an upgrade

Hello. I noticed your post about putting an Aspire tranny in a Festiva. I need a transmission for my 93 Festiva, but cannot find a decent one at a good price. I can however get an Aspire tranny w/ low miles for a great price. So my question (finally) is: Do you know if this will work in my car? I have made no modifications to the car so it is completely stock. You mentioned the mounts, or one of the mounts, must be modified. Can you describe what is involved in this in a little more detail? I appreciate your time. Thanks. -Matthew

I did the Aspire tranny swap by flipping the Festiva front mount bracket upside down, widened the two mnt holes so it would bolt on, then drilled and tapped the lower hole into the Aspire case, pretty straight forward.
