Can anyone tell me if a turbo and intercooler off a chevy sprint will work on my festiva. I have a 1990 festiva LX or LS don't remember which. any info would be very much appreciated thanks

The turbo and intercooler will work, in fact probably a decent match for the B3 engine, what you will need to do is fabricate an exhaust manifold for the turbo to bolt to, then you also will need to fab up the intake plumbing, and run an oil line for the turbo, water lines for the turbo, add a way to retard timing under boost, and increase fueling under boost. people always seem to think that just bolting a turbo on a car is all they need to do, when there are all the ancillary things you need to do, and these are not optional! not having oil supply to the turbo will kill the turbo in about a block of driving. as will not controlling timing and fuel.
Unless you can do the fabrication yourself, you would be ahead of the game to look into doing a B6T swap, otherwise the cost would outweigh the benefits fast, and you will not end up with as much power as you would like too.

fabrication of which item? The exhaust manifold you could probably source from someplace that does custom work, same for the intake plumbing, either that or learn to weld... A turbo b3 would be kind of neat, but unless you do the fab work, just would be too expensive to really be worthwhile, and unless you beef up the bottom end once you got the turbo stuff sorted, you would likely want to keep the boost down too, since the bottom end would probably have a hard time with more then 6psi or so. And after all that likely your hp level would be about 120 or so, not even close to what a stock B6T puts out and about the same level as a stock BP without a turbo.

Well I'd have to agree with mr. Rummel here. I just finished turbocharging my stock B3 engine 3 weeks ago (in a '97 Kia Pride) and since then the waterpump broke, a blown headgasket and I just blew the piston rings yesterday...
For me it was easier to turbocharge the B3, since a B6T is hard/expensive to get over here, but as I am finding out, the stock engine might just not be up to the task of producing the extra power.
So I definitely advise you to put in the extra effort and find yourself a B6T and save yourself some headache!
I had the fabrication done by others and well, let's just say I spent a lot more then I had planned or was willing to! (partly my own fault)
They did a decent job installing and fabricating, but at the end of the day it wasn't worth it in my opinion. Sure, the car is a hell of a lot faster then before, but for the $$$ I spent the thrill doesn't last long.
So having said that, I'll now get back to scraping pennies together for an engine overhaul.. :evil:

What was your turbo set up for the B3 on boost? How many pounds? I think the b3 would hold at least 8psi on a small turbo like t-25. I have been thinking of starting this type of project for the b3. I have a t25 from a sr20det I could make my own intercooler piping. And of course I'll also get the fittings and hoses from amzon hose. Shouldn't be that hard to do.

The stock exhaust manifold can be used for the turbo mount with great success. Cast iron is way more durable than any tubular steel or stainless header. If you are not going to push more than 6 PSI of boost, you may be able to get away without any sort of ignition control, 93+ octane will become your only option for fuel and you will have to listen for detonation like it's your job. Water/methanol injection or intercooling is STRONGLY recommended if you go this way. There is no way around the fuel control though. The cheapest way is to purchase a Vortech or Cartech FMU (adjustable rising rate fuel pressure regulator). An optimal setup would be a MSD-6BTM(boost timing master) or a J&S Safeguard for ignition control and a FMU(vortech pref.) Of course, you can always get the turbo mounted and take it to a superchips or jet dealer and have them tune in your combo on the dyno and burn you a chip for the fuel/ignition control. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $500-$700 to do so.Fast, fun and good gas mileage. 91' Festiva(RIP) and 96' Aspire(RIP). The website is no more.

just slap a b6t head on the b3 block...lowers your compression, you have a bolt up turbo manifold and intake plumbing, then handle the ignition....you can crank up the boost higher....a turbo b3 would rawk....only thing cooler would be a dohc b3 turbo...gtx rocksJesus is on my dashboard, But the Devil is under my hood
