Would it be possible to have a different intermediate shaft cut down and re-splined to fit?

that would be as costly and as time consuming as jsut finding an xr2/323gt shaft.

What is the spline count on the intermediate shaft? Anyone know? If I had to guess from what I have read I would say it would be 26 splines on each side but I have not seen it for myself.

these are all good info but this topic kinda made a left turn... lets steer it right back. did it actually work? i mean the inner CV and the tripot(i think thats what its called) combination? cause i was planning to do the same thing. just scared to spend on it though:laughing8:

If those bearing are off sized just alittle, don't plan on it working of that long. We swap cv outers and inner all the time to make something lot drive, but never intend for it to be driven on the streets. I'd just take it to an axle rebuilder to get there advice and possibly part numbers or make/model info.

I know for the MR2s, to make the 3SGTE (MK2 Turbo motor) fit in the MK1 MR2, we usually have to make hybrid axles out of the Turbo and the V6 Camry of 88s axles. You use the Turbo inner CVs and the Camry outer CV. Thats basically what your trying to do here, right?

you can use an escort gt intermidiate shaft i have done it. i had to lenghthen it and cut the bearing mount and reposition it( it was a escort gt trans and bp swap with b6t axles. i had three escort shafts and i didnt want to pay 150 for a b6t and my brother had one for his car so i used it as a model. i sleeved the escort shaft with dom the thing was bullet proof. and as far as torque steer goes every front wheel drive swapped festy will do it when you first get the swap done it wont be that bad but it usually gets worse cause the rack starts to crap out along with most the components in the front end im not saying that you shouldnt do it. im just saying that you might as well try it but it helps to have new suspension parts too. from my expierience riding in bp+t swaps they jump into the other lane no matter what torque steer from h@(( even with traction bars..but we are flooring it race style so if you are just going to drive it i dont think you will have any problems.. good luck it could save you a bunch of money too..
