  • Gears in the Trannys

    Hello Guys,

I was reading the transmission swaps for the Festiva, then I got to thinking: Can you interchange the gears through the trannies? I know, at least with the MR2 I have, I can put a 6 speed in my car by just putting the gears out of a Celica. Plus, I lack a welder or know anyone with one.
    Current cars:

1993 Ford Festiva 5-Speed - Festiclese III - Cousin of the Banhammer - "The Jalopnik Car"
    1984 Toyota Cressida - 2JZGE Swap, Turbocharged.
2013 Mazda Mazda2 - Exhaust and Wheels (the daily)
    2002 Toyota Tundra - V6/Auto/2WD - The Tow Vehicle.

the aspire trans will bolt right in, the 323 tranys will bolt onto the engine but you'll need custom axles made, and the EGT 1.8 trans will also work save for axles. i know there are others, but don't know the specifics.
    Trees aren't kind to me...

    currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),
94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.

That wasn't really the querstion. I know they all mount up to the motors, I just can't really get brackets welded for the car, thats why I was wondering if, say, the G series gears would go into a E-series casing.

Are the Aspire gears any stronger?

You could send the gears to a place in Il. called "300 below". They cryogenically treat things to make them wear much longer. I sent then my diff gears, both side gears, the pinion gears, pinion pin, and thrust washers. Very great to deal with. You could send them everything. Go read about cryogenic gear treatment, see if that will fit you needs. I consider it to be a good value.

Actually, you can sent them the case! And this service is by the pound, so that's no weight. Racing teams send them pistons and turbo housings all the time too.
What's happening that you're wrecking the case? You're not trashing the diff pin are you? You know once you do the bearings, you're suppose to shim the slack out of everything.
BTW I've got a festiva case I can let you have for cheap.
P.M. me for a picture if you're interested.

This is what I did... too much wheel hop, ALL my bushings/mounts, trans/control arm/engine were soft and worn out.... I replaced the trans, and all the mounts and bushings with high durometer units.. I hope to not have that problem any more...
